When I was a kid, I had to wear orthopedic shoes. They were two-toned saddle shoes and all I remember was that everything about them was hard… the leather uppers were stiff and uncomfortable, as were the custom orthotic footbeds. I was told this was the way it had to be to offer the proper support for my feet. While they did eventually do their job, the daily struggle to get me to wear the shoes still sticks in my head.
Fast-forward more than 30 years and, fortunately, we no longer have to deal with uncomfortable orthotics or stiff shoes to ensure good foot support.
This past week, I attended the Spring/Summer 2014 launch of Vionic™ with Orthaheel® Technology and, from the moment I saw the displays of shoes, I knew this line was different than anything I had seen before.
Not only are the styles gorgeous and well-made, but also extremely comfortable. Gone are the memories of hard, stiff shoes; these are firm enough to support, but are cushioned enough to guarantee comfort for many hours of daily wear due to their three levels of support: firm yet flexible midsole; innovative biomechanical footbed; and deep heel cup.
I was particularly impressed with the vast number of styles available for the upcoming spring/summer season.
Some of my favourites include…
Bella (Light Blue)
Cancun (Bronze)
Maggie (Red Patent)
Rio (Black)
I was able to try on a few different styles and I can attest that Vionic puts comfort above all else. Despite how pretty they were, they felt even better.
Tide II flip-flops
I was given a custom fitting for a pair of Tide II flip-flops and, despite having never been able to wear the thong-style of shoe (they always rubbed uncomfortably in between my toes) I ended up loving them! It definitely has to do with the immense support offered by the substantial footbed and, of course, having a proper fitting. I am usually a size 9, but their shoe fitter suggested I go a size down. She was right… the size 8 was perfect and hugged my foot so that no rubbing occurred.
If you want quality, supportive shoes without compromising style, check out Vionic with Orthaheel online or in your favourite shoe store. You can also follow them on Facebook and Twitter where you’ll get great tips and hear about promotions first!
