Manitoba Harvest Shelled Hemp Seeds

You may have noticed lately I am trying to introduce my family to some healthier options when it comes to snacking. I realize I still have a long road ahead of me with this finicky bunch. But I am determined one snack at a time to find something that everyone will like and be good for them. Recently I was on twitter and was introduced to Manitoba Harvest I was pleased to find another Canadian company to follow and tweet with. After a brief chat Manitoba Harvest offered to send me a pouch of their Shelled Hemp Seed to try out. As well as one to give to my great readers. Yay! I have had hemp Iced Tea before but nothing else. I was not sure what to expect.

A couple days later my pouch arrived. I was reading the side and saw it was great as a snack straight from the bag. So I opened it and they were right. The seeds are very small and soft. They taste kind of nutty, but are nut free. The seeds are also gluten free with no preservatives or additives. The next day I added some seeds to my cereal and a bit on my salad at lunch. I was even able to get my kids to eat some from the bag and they liked it. They were a bit curious as to what exactly hemp was so we did some research.

From Manitoba Harvests Site
“Hemp is a sustainable, green-friendly plant that’s been around for many generations. Check out the hemp history page for more details. Hemp is versatile and used for many things such as clothing, rope, car material and of course food! That’s where we come in”

So we tried something new and we all learned a little something. It was great having this opportunity.  I wish I had been more creative and tried my seeds in a recipe. I bet they would have tasted great. I am surprised and happy with the taste of the Hemp Seeds. If you would like to read a yummy recipe for muffins using the seeds visit my friend’s blog to see her review lifeonmanitoulinreviews.blogspot.com I definitely will be making muffins next time. This products has so many possible uses it is a great addition to any home.

Manitoba Harvest also has many other Hemp products including butter, oils, beverages and more

  11. On their web page I noted that if you like them on facebook you can enter a sweepstakes (unfortunately you have to accept an app and give out more info than my tolerance). However it is still worthwhile to like them because you can get $1 off a product and they will contribute to relief in Africa.By the way I've had their hemp butter and it is delicious.fionabarnowl at care2dotcom
