We Bought a Zoo (Review)

Benjamin Mee (Damon) is a Los Angeles newspaper columnist and adventure writer who, as a single father, faces the challenges of raising his two young children.  Hoping that a fresh start and a new life will restore their family spirit, Mee quits his job and buys an old rural house outside the city with a unique bonus feature: a zoo named the Rosemoor Animal Park, where dozens of animals reside under the care of head zookeeper Kelly Foster (Johansson) and her dedicated team.  With no experience, limited time and a shoestring budget, Mee sets out with the support of his family and the local community to reopen the zoo.  Now, Benjamin is no longer reporting an adventure story; he’s living it in his own backyard.

Last night after the disappointing television show I watched, I was in the mood for something good. earlier in the day a DVD arrived It was “We Bought A Zoo”. I remember my family mentioning they wanted to see this when we had seen previews a few months back. So we decided this was what we were going to watch. I am happy we did. I really enjoyed it.

The story starts off a few months after the mother and wife passes away from a long illness. The family is having a hard time getting back into a “normal” swing. So the dad played by Matt Damon decides it is time to move. He figures a change or an adventure of sorts would be what they needed. As the title tells you, they buy a Zoo. I am not going to post any spoilers. But i will say I enjoyed it.

I personally loved this movie. It was great to watch with the family. No violence or sex. It is a drama with a little bit of humour thrown in. I am a true animal lover and loved the interactions with the animals in the movie. I cried and I laughed while watching this. My husband said he enjoyed it but would not call it a fave. He also said he would not watch again. For him it dragged on and there was not enough action. For me, that was perfect 🙂

Watch for it on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download April 3
