Learning is Fun with the Reading Rainbow’s Free App

My children are always learning and loving to do so. They love technology just like every other kid out there. Often they know it better than I do.  As a mom I like to know what my kids are doing and learn along with them. So when I had the chance to check out the Reading Rainbow app I was excited to do so.

The app was easy to find and install on my iPad. To set it up for my daughter I was asked a few questions. This helped pick books that would be appropriate for her age and reading interests.

After that we chose the options we wanted for the app. I chose the FREE option but there were also two other choices. $9.99/month or $29.99 for six months which gets you unlimited books. There are 150 books to choose from and 16 video field trips.

My daughter picked out a book from the library selection. We could choose if she wanted it to be read to her or read it herself. We chose for it to be read to her. She is still just learning her letters. She found it a lot of fun picking out the book to read.

A little about the app
Reading Rainbow host and producer, LeVar Burtonreimaginesthe iconic brand as a reading adventure App designed especially for the iPad.
Designed for children 3-9 years of age, the App delivers a library of hundreds of curated books and all new videos presented in a world of adventure and discovery. Travelling to themed Islands such as Animal Kingdom, My Friends, My Family and Genius Academy, kids find a variety of books and videos customized to their age and interests. The App brings together books from numerous acclaimed children’s publishers. Each book comes alive with audio storytelling by celebrity actors, including spoken word Grammy winner Burton himself, and features light animations and related activities to enhance the story.
Similar to the original series, children journey with Burton on exciting real-life adventures. These in-app video field trips connect the stories children read to the world they live in and use a combination of newly-produced video as well as classic segments from the TV show
A few more times with having the book read to her and my daughter will be able to start reading it on own. this is perfect as she starts Junior Kindergarten next month. Reading opens a world of imagine and knowledge up for everyone. This fun app is something we will continue to use. I can see it being an important tool as she grows and learns this year.
