Walmart recently announced the finalists in their Mom of the Year contest. This is the first year of this great contest that recognizes the moms who go above and beyond but it will not be the last. There are 8 finalists and each one has the honor of receiving $10,000 for themselves and $10,000 for their charity. I am glad it is not my job to pick the winner as their stories are all very touching and inspirational.
The Mom of the Year Award nominations were hugely successful in recognizing amazing women across Canada. In total, 16,909 moms were nominated, and now the eight finalists have been selected. You can read the stories of these amazing women on the Mom of the Year website (www.MomoftheYear.ca). In the end, one of these women will be able to donate $100,000 to the charity of her choice. There is no doubt these charities can use this money to help many people. The first ever Walmart Mom of the Year will be announced later on this month.
One of the finalists that stands out for me is Tammy MacKinnon. Her story and nomination that was submitted by her husband is great. This giving mom is a mom to many. She has biological children ,adopted children, foster children and children she helps in other areas of the world. She is a super mom in my opinion 🙂 Her efforts to not only help children around the world to get nutrition and an education are only the tip if the iceberg. She also is active in her community and has started an adoption coalition.
