Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center

I recently had the pleasure of visiting a wonderful place. I went down to Grapevine Texas not far from Dallas, and had no idea what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised during my visit. Southern hospitality was in full force and I truly felt at home. Everything I love about my home I experienced in Texas. The multicultural residents who were so sweet and welcoming. The beautiful environment and the people just being real and being so nice.

I was in Texas for a blogger conference (Blissdom 13) It was being held at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center. So of course we stayed in a room there as well. Nice and close to all the action.  I was there for four days. When I had been in Orlando last summer we had briefly stopped by their Gaylord resort and it was beautiful. So I expected this one to be beautiful as well. I was  not disappointed at all. This resort was everything I imagined and more.

The Gaylord Texan is part of the Marriott family of hotels. The hotel itself is set back on the property and is huge. According to others it is not as big as some of the other Gaylord Resorts.  The staff from the moment you arrive are very friendly and welcoming. They accommodated all our needs and did so with a smile. Check in was not as quick as I would have liked but that was to be expected. There were three women in our room and each was billed separately  My only complaint is that the main call center should know more about what actually goes on at check-in for each location.

The hallways in the hotel were beautiful and very big. The elevators were conveniently located and we never waited long for one to arrive. The rooms were perfect. Our room had two large beds and a big Television. A desk and a bathroom with separate vanity area and lots of closet space. We also got two bottles of water in our fridge daily (no charge) and coffee with a single serve coffee maker. We requested extra toiletries and towels and got them no problem, at no additional charge.

There were lots of conferences, conventions and tournaments on at  the time we were there. But there was plenty of room for all . The convention center is located across from the hotel itself, separated by the huge atrium. This area had a river and a train set, set up as well as a few dining options. There were plants, and some fun buildings and other local looking landmarks to get photographed in front of. There was also a vineyard and a pool.

Not far from the main resort area there is the Glass Cactus. This is a night club that is part of the resort and is a quick 5 minute walk up hill or a quick shuttle ride. We went one night and it was a lot of fun. My drink of choice, Margaritas 🙂 The klive entertainment was great!

In the hotel itself there is a bar and a few different coffee shops and small shops Fir gifts. There was everything you needed. If you wanted to venture out and go into town to do some shopping you could. There is a shuttle service and also a driver available. The cost for two of us made sense to go by private car and have our own driver. Plus we got the tour guide experience.

This is some of the details throughout the atrium. The temperature in here was perfect day and night. The walkways lined with flowers and lit up well too.

This picture above is of the huge star at the top of the atrium at night. I loved the way it looked all lit up. Below are two pictures of the bars located at the Resort. One is the Glass Cactus , a night club (very lively and open late)and the other is located in the lobby( more laid back and closes earlier).

If you are planning a trip to the area you can check out Gaylord Texan

Have you ever stayed at one of the Gaylord resorts before? I would love to hear about it.

  1. I've always wanted to go to Texas!!

I have never stayed at a Gaylord resort, but I have heard so many wonderful things. The property you stayed at looked beautiful and fun too!
Loved that they could bill the three of you separately – I've never heard of a hotel doing that!
Sounds like a fantastic experience – off to check out the hotel online…

  2. I actually lived in Corpus Christi Texas for half a year and loved it. You are right, Texans are just wonderfully hospital in the way we are up here in the North. I was pleasantly surprised by that as well, I found my per-conceptions of Texas were WAY off base.

I'd love to go back to Texas, and If I do I think I'd check out a Gaylord resort, it looks awesome!

  5. Wow what a beautiful place. I love hotels that feel like a destination of their own. Ones that when you are on vacation, and you don't feel up to another day out, you can hang out at the hotel and not feel bored. This seems like that place. I have always wanted to go to Texas, seems like a really cool place to visit.

Oh and so jealous of Blissdom. I am hoping to go to another conference this year. I liked the day trip last year as I need the break from the boys, but I am a bit of a home body.
