Scared Mommy

Before I had kids I used to love to watch suspenseful shows.  Crime shows, mysteries, suspense, I loved them.  To get my heart racing, to be on the edge of my seat.  While I hate Horror movies, suspense were some of my favorites.

This weekend, I was home hanging out with my husband and we thought we would catch up on some TV shows we used to watch (now on Netflix).  Dexter was one of our favorites, and there were lots of episodes on Netflix we hadn’t watched yet.  So, we settled in for a good night of TV.
This time I shielded my eyes, and went to get popcorn at the scariest parts.  And then I had nightmares all night.
Apparently I have become scared mommy.
What caused the change?
Children?  It seems really unusual to think that would affect the kind of TV shows that I like.  But, it has.  I am more cautious, less adventurous, more scared. Not just in my choice of entertainment but in life in general.
While I was never a daredevil and heights terrify me, but now I am focused on life insurance, a will, guardians for my children.  I realize this is all about a change to being more responsible but does this mean I will only be watching G rated movies and TV for the rest of my life?  Perhaps.  Or maybe it is just a reality of getting older.
What is the most startling thing that becoming a parent has changed in you?
