Heather Hartt-Sussman new releases in time for Summer Reading

nanna books

We love books! Whenever I get a chance to check out a new kid friendly book I am all over it. I try to introduce my children to a wide variety of books. The more options they have, the better chance they will find a few they love.

Heather Hartt-Sussman recently released two new books for summer, Noni is nervous and Nana’s Summer surprise. There is actually a whole series of books about nana. They are a lot of fun. In both series I enjoy the fact that the kids can relate to the characters in the books. In today’s families, we are all different. Some families have one parent, some live with their grandparents, some have step parents. It is great to see books that can relate to these blended families and the obstacles they face.

The illustrations throughout the books are great. Lots of character to each picture. Great colour and so much detail. Very appealing to look at while reading. I love big bright pics.

The inside of each books cover has a poster you can hang up as well. I know these dust covers are to protect the books, but I often just throw them out. So it is nice to have another use for them .

Nana’s Summer Surprise chronicles the tale of how a young boy must face one more hurdle in accepting his Nana’s new “family.” Nana’s new husband, Bob, has a granddaughter named Hortense. At the cottage for a summer holiday, the boy is horrified to discover that Hortense is no longer likely to enjoy climbing trees and running around. She’s grown tall, wears skirts and pins pictures of rock stars on her wall. All seems lost, until the two manage to find something to work towards together: a surprise birthday party for Nana. This charming picture book holds a valuable lesson about getting along by finding common ground. For ages 4 to 6.

Available throughout Canada and USA
