We love the outdoors! We love getting dirty, seeing the sites and having a great time. The grander the adventure the better. The more peaceful and relaxing the journey even better. As long as we are outside we are happy. So when we travel we do not like being cooped up inside more than we have to. We want to be out and about meeting locals, seeing the sites and exploring.
Visiting Massachusetts is no different. There seems to be so much to do both indoors and out. You can visit the beach, go camping, fishing or hiking. As well as go whale watching or if you are more adventurous go white water rafting.
If you have never seen a whale up close in its natural habitat I suggest you check out a whale watching tour. This is one of the best outings a family could do. When we saw a whale up close for the first time it was absolutely amazing! Something my children will remember forever.
Ever been up close and personal with a 50-foot, 40-ton whale? Once you have, it’s an experience you won’t soon forget.
That experience can be yours in Massachusetts, one of the top-ten whale-watching spots in the world, according to the World Wildlife Fund. On a real New England whale-watching expedition, alongside onboard naturalists, you’ll head out roughly 25 miles off the coast to Stellwagen Bank and be treated to awe-inspiring sights of humpback, pilot and blue whales breaching and spouting through the deep blue Atlantic Ocean.
Whale watching is offered in the warmer months, April to October. So if this is something that interests you, be sure to visit then.
If you prefer being away from the water and maybe on the snow, Massachusetts has that option as well. I bet a stroll through a lightly covered park or a day on the slopes both sound like a lot of fun for the snow lover in your family. I prefer warmth but Massachusetts in winter truly looks beautiful.
There are two kinds of people: those who ski and those who snowboard. And in Massachusetts, there’s plenty going on for both kinds.
Love a good cardio workout and beautiful scenery? Head west and try Canterbury Farm Cross Country Ski Area’s 22 kilometers of cross-country skiing on groomed and tracked trails. Prefer downhill action? Wachusett Mountain Ski Area in Central Massachusetts features the highest mountain in Massachusetts east of the Connecticut River. Avid snowboarder? Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort is the largest ski and snowboard resort in Southern New England and Nashoba Valley Ski Area is just 30 minutes from Boston
You can check out the local ski page for current conditions
Massachusetts provides an abundance of opportunities for getting outdoors and enjoying the natural beauty the state has to offer. In fact, many residents have taken their love of the outdoors and turned it into the way they making a living.
