When our kids were little we would often take a drive up to the area and have a picnic. We would go fishing, shopping or just do some sight seeing. Then we would turn around and drive home. It was a nice day trip and for a young family, affordable. One of the funnest things of our summer is berry picking. It does not matter if you bake with them or make jams. You can just wash and eat them as is. They are so sweet and fresh there is nothing like it. Kawarthas is a great place for berry picking.
Located just northeast of Toronto and is easily accessed via Highways 401, 35/115 and 7
The region has a rich history starting with the fur trade, logging and mining, the early settling of Upper Canada, and the importance of its ports as commercial centers for shipping in the Great Lakes. Popular outdoor activities are boating, fishing and hunting, hiking, cycling, birding, ATV, horseback riding, golfing, motorcycle touring and various watersports.
When you are surrounded by so much beauty the best way to take it all in is by bike or walking. This way you are sure not to miss a thing.
Just like any other great destination you can leave the kids behind and enjoy a couples weekend away if you choose.
