The things I worried about 19 years ago when I had my first were way different than the things I worried about 4 years ago. As a new mom and a young mom I worried about everything. I let other peoples ideas of being a mom flood my brain and stress me out. One day I went to my grandmother who had raised 5 children on very little money and asked her advice. This was the one and only time I as a mom actually asked for advice even though it seemed to be offered often.
She told me two things I have always remembered and pass on to all moms
- Pick your battles
- Trust your gut
Really , who knows your children better than you? Nobody! I try hard not to give advice when it is not asked. I do tell parents in my experience the more children I had the easier it got. I think this is partly because I was more relaxed. They were also entertained by each other so I did not have to give 100% all the time 🙂 You know what diapering, feeding and sleeping routines are best for your family, so trust your gut.

The best advice I received is that all babies are different. Don't compare your baby to anyone else's and just enjoy your baby's milestones when it arrives.

Best advice I received – Don't worry when a kid decides not to eat much at a meal, they usually catch up on the next one, or the next day. Some days they have more of an appetite than others.

Best advice I have is this.. don't try to be your child's friend. They'll have enough of those in their lifetime.
