End of Summer Organizing

Summer is a time of beaches, vacation, sunshine, BBQs, picnics and lazy hot days.  But, as the nights (and days) get cooler it is time to start thinking about the hectic days of September.  Back to school, back to routine, back to all the things we love about Fall.

As these days become closer and closer I begin what I call my End of Summer cleaning and organizing spree.  While part of me wants to be outside soaking up the last rays of warm sunshine, I also love the opportunity to clean up, purge and organize.

This week I started in the kitchen and the pantry in preparation to get ready for a new fridge.  We have a tiny kitchen, but with my husband’s catering company a second fridge is essential.  So, cleaning and purging began! With time, some dusting cloths and three bins (keep, throw away, donate).

It’s amazing what a few hours, some elbow grease and new storage containers can do – my newly cleaned and organized pantry will make back to school lunch preparation easy and stress free.  Plus, all of my baking supplies are in new airtight containers to keep them fresh and easy to access.

In addition to the kitchen and pantry I’ve been busy sorting my boys’ clothes and determining what pants/socks/shoes they have grown out of over the summer and making a list of what I still need to purchase for them.

Now, I just need to make some preserves and fill my freezer with healthy meals so my Fall can be as stress-free as possible.

What things do you do inside your house to prepare for Fall?

Since I teach, I find that I, too, want to get organized before I head in to set up my classroom. I love to purge and organize and I think I should by shares in rubbermaid, as I can never have enough storage containers, bins and baskets!

  2. I do all my organizing in the Spring before we move out to our trailer for the summer, that way when we come home it is all done. Have fun with your organizing!

I love the idea of using the baskets in the pantry. We just bought a house and the pantry is great but the shelves are deep and I fear things will get lost. Great idea to store common things in a basket. Looks like I too have some work to do.
