Go Wild! African Lion Safari

When I was a child every summer we would go away for the week. Our holiday would include camping, Niagara Falls and African Lion Safari. It was a tradition.  When I became mom it was important to me to share these places with my family. We have been a few times to African Lion Safari over the years but our last visit was 5 years ago. I can not believe how fast time flies. With my youngest being almost five I had been planning on visiting this summer. I am happy we had the opportunity. African Lion Safari is located in South western Ontario Canada just outside of Cambridge and Hamilton.

My children had a blast!

We went last week, mid week. The day was a bit cool but a lot of fun. There have been many changes to African Lion Safari over the years. Many additions and many new animals. I have so many great memories there I am happy they still have the drive through safari you can navigate on your own.

YES, there is a the air conditioned bus you can take through for a small fee. However my kids insisted we drive through ourselves. I wanted to bypass the monkeys but they were not having it. As I saw baboons jumping out of trees onto peoples cars I got a bit nervous. But it was all good. we were safe in our car with the windows up and locked . We loved it so much we drove through three times on our own. Each time the animals were doing something different, located somewhere new and often hanging out around the cars.

We spent the day watching shows, seeing the elephants swim, letting DD ride the pony, kids went for an elephant ride. As well we had lunch and went on the boat, train and hung out in the splash pad. It was a great day. The Splash pad and huge ball pit and climber are new additions since we were there last. As a redhead I really appreciated the shade. So many huge umbrellas and trees giving shade as it was needed.

DD’s favourite part was the petting zoo. we live in the country and my children love animals. I accidentally let one of the stubborn goats out and the lady was really sweet and wrangled her back in. Many of them had just had babies too!

We had lunch there (pizza) as well as some fair foods, yum! It was a blast! We stayed until the park closed and enjoyed every minute of it. even though it was a cooler day we still enjoyed the splash pad. we brought home our Safari Guide book so DD can look back and read about the animals she saw.

  1. So glad you had a blast! Our kids love it and keep asking to go back, even though we've already been twice this summer lol. There's so much to do there 🙂 My son enjoys reading the safari guide book and remembering what we saw there 🙂

  2. I've never actually been to African Lion Safari, even thought it is less than half an hour from my house. Is that sad or what? lol!

  9. So glad that you and your family had such a fabulous time Kim! Being in Alberta, I have never been, but it looks like so much fun. My Daughter would absolutely love the petting zoo for sure. One thing I really love that you mentioned in your post was the fact you locked your doors. So many people don't do this and it is a must! Unless however, they WANT the monkey climbing in the car with them…hehe

  13. Our teenage daughter wanted to visit a zoo that was a little unique- this place hit the mark. The highlight of the zoo, for us, was driving thru the safari in our truck. Monkeys jumped on our car and sat on the roof, ostriches pecked at the windows and we were able to get great close up pictures.
