Crock Pot The Original Slow Cooker

Shorter days and cooler temperatures in my world mean comfort foods. Roasts, stews and other foods that can be made throughout the day with little to no fuss at all. we are at Track and Field practice at lest three days a week and are very limited on time after school. Having growing kids who eat a lot I need to make sure dinner is good and plenty.

crockpot

The other night I was pressed for time. It was dinner time and I looked in my freezer. everything there was to cook was going to be minimum 3 hours. So the next day I planned ahead. I took out a preseasoned Corned Beef roast and placed it in my Crock Pot. Covered with water and turned on to high. 4 hours later it was done and all I had to do was prepare a quick side. Had I thought of it, I could have added veggies and potatoes right to the Crock Pot.  The corned beef was cooked to perfection and tasted so good. It was so easy to cook I kind of felt guilty. Like dinner should have been harder to do or something lol So now when I am shopping I am finding myself looking for food I can place in the crock pot and leave to cook for the day. I have more time to do other things, the kids are fed a great meal and we have so much time between activities to enjoy the food. Plus we have leftovers.  A word I thought no longer existed having two teen boys int he house.

I learnt that both High and Low settings stabilize at the same temperature; it is just a matter of how long it takes to reach the simmer point. Once food reaches the simmer point, total cook time is dependent on cut and weight of meat to reach the point of maximum flavour and texture potential. (Most dishes can be prepared on either High or Low.)

Yes, but it is very important to understand that starting cooking with cold stoneware and cold food will affect the ramp up time of the slow cooker. Always add sufficient time into the cook time to ensure food is safe, as well as tender. It is recommended to use an instant read thermometer when cooking with chilled stoneware and chilled food to ensure food temperatures reach well above 70°C and test to ensure food is tender.
