Shorter days and cooler temperatures in my world mean comfort foods. Roasts, stews and other foods that can be made throughout the day with little to no fuss at all. we are at Track and Field practice at lest three days a week and are very limited on time after school. Having growing kids who eat a lot I need to make sure dinner is good and plenty.
The other night I was pressed for time. It was dinner time and I looked in my freezer. everything there was to cook was going to be minimum 3 hours. So the next day I planned ahead. I took out a preseasoned Corned Beef roast and placed it in my Crock Pot. Covered with water and turned on to high. 4 hours later it was done and all I had to do was prepare a quick side. Had I thought of it, I could have added veggies and potatoes right to the Crock Pot. The corned beef was cooked to perfection and tasted so good. It was so easy to cook I kind of felt guilty. Like dinner should have been harder to do or something lol So now when I am shopping I am finding myself looking for food I can place in the crock pot and leave to cook for the day. I have more time to do other things, the kids are fed a great meal and we have so much time between activities to enjoy the food. Plus we have leftovers. A word I thought no longer existed having two teen boys int he house.
My new Crock Pot, 5 Qt Round Smart Pot Slow Cooker is so easy to use. It also looks really nice on the counter. I love the glass lid so I can check on dinner without opening when needed. There are 4 automatic time settings and automatic temperature settings. This pot easily fits enough food in it for a family of 4-5 like mine (minus DD who is off at college) . The stoneware is removable making serving easy and clean up easier. Dishwasher safe too! This awesome Crock Pot (yes I love it) comes with a 1 year limited warranty.

I love the idea of crock pots with stirring in them. I love my crock pot.
I learnt that both High and Low settings stabilize at the same temperature; it is just a matter of how long it takes to reach the simmer point. Once food reaches the simmer point, total cook time is dependent on cut and weight of meat to reach the point of maximum flavour and texture potential. (Most dishes can be prepared on either High or Low.)

I learned this about reheating in a slow cooker: "Reheating is not recommended. However, the stoneware is microwave proof and oven proof up to 200°C." I hadn't thought of putting the stoneware in the oven!
I learned something I didn't know before about Crock Pots. The 'low' and 'high' settings do not operate the way I used to think. Apparently, both High and Low stabilize at the same temperature; it is just a matter of how long it takes to reach the simmer point. I always thought that "High" meant it would cook at a higher temp and vice versa for "Low."
Some of the dessert recipes shown on the page seem interesting. I'd like to try out the Pineapple and Mango Fondant with Coconut Gratin recipe.

I checked out the following tip >>> Can I place ingredients in the slow cooker the night before and leave it in the refrigerator?
Yes, but it is very important to understand that starting cooking with cold stoneware and cold food will affect the ramp up time of the slow cooker. Always add sufficient time into the cook time to ensure food is safe, as well as tender. It is recommended to use an instant read thermometer when cooking with chilled stoneware and chilled food to ensure food temperatures reach well above 70°C and test to ensure food is tender.
