Bavarian Inn Restaurant Frankenmuth-Family Style Chicken Dinners & More

BavarianInnRestaurantCollage

Frankenmuth is known for their Bavarian hospitality but also their chicken dinners. Their family style chicken dinners. You thought a buffet was the way to go when eating out with a family, but you are wrong. The family style is the way to go. The dining experience at Bavarian Inn restaurant is like no other I have ever experienced. You order you family style meal (chicken or other German fave)  Then you sit back and enjoy. Your meals is served “family style” meaning large bowls and plates for the entire family to dig and and help themselves. If your plate is low, you just ask for more, no getting up and waiting in long lines. We spent over two hours in the restaurant eating, laughing and enjoying the entertainment.

My mom, childen and I  visited Bavarian Inn restaurant during our recent visit to Frankenmuth. With 12 German themed dining rooms, tasty German foods and a budget friendly menu, this place is great! My teen boys really enjoyed it and loved the endless food. Our server was dressed in traditional lederhosen, and was so friendly and quick to bring us refills. She even was kind enough to pose for a pic with a male server for this post.

Our family style meals were served with Stollen Bread, a variety of salads, chicken noodle soup and dessert (homemade ice cream). As well as veggies,, mashed potatoes, gravy and endless chicken. My one son is not a fan of chicken so he got Schnitzel which was yummy! While eating we had live entertainment and a special visit from Dorothy Zehnder, wife of founder Tiny Zehnder, who still oversees the “heart of house”. This sweet, hard working woman shared stories with us and personally greeted all the people in our dining room. It felt like we were eating at grandmas house 🙂 Her love and dedication to her family and business makes this unique place even better to visit.

If you are planning a visit this is the place to go. You can make reservations or take a chance and walk in. Lunch, dinner or take out available. Then when you are done eating, enjoy a leisurely stroll through the shops on the lower level. Beneath Bavarian Inn Restaurant is Bavarian Inn Castle shops. There you will find, wine, beer, fresh baked goods, one of a kind gifts and more. My daughter loves the dolls and I prefer the home made chocolates found there.

There is so much to do and see you can spend days. If you do, check out my post about the Bavarian Inn Lodge. We had planned on finishing off our visit with a horse drawn carriage ride, but the weather was not cooperating. So next time!

I am hoping to head back before the holidays to get some shopping done.

  10. I just wanted to let you know that not only did my mother work there for years as a server and my sister in the bar and myself as a server that when I read your article and every bit of it is true about this place except one detail. Your server being female wasn't wearing lederhosen (that is the leather shorts worn by the male server in your photo). The ladies all wear a durndl dress. The atmosphere and hospitality is by far and away the best you will encounter (along with the food and service). I surely hope that will visit Frankenmuth again soon, it is unlike any other place.
