The Bavarian Inn Lodge Frankenmuth Michigan

Living in Ontario we are lucky for family getaways. There are so many great destinations to visit within a days drive or less from us. One of these destinations is Frankenmuth located in Michigan, just an hour past the Canadian boarder. This unique family destination has quickly become a favourite for our family. We first discovered it when we were shopping one of the outlet malls in the area. My mom was with us and kept going on and on about this place we had to stop in and see. She said we had to go for lunch, and it was less than 10 minutes from the Birch Run Outlet mall. She told us of their family style chicken dinners that were famous and we would not be sorry. So we stopped in and loved it. Since then we have been making it a must visit spot whenever we can getaway.

The Bavarian community of Frankenmuth is like no other I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. The beauty and hospitality are both tremendous and makes you want to visit over and over again. It kind of feels like you are visiting family, relatives that are so generous and welcoming you feel all warm and fuzzy. On a recent visit to Frankenmuth we spent the night at The Bavarian Inn Lodge located just through the covered bridge when you first enter town.  The history of the Inn is the focus of each room. From when settlers arrived in Frankenmuth from Germany in 1845 . Each room has family pictures and a story about the family. The rooms are spacious and ours had two double beds, a balcony and mini fridge. There was a television, a desk along with everything else needed for a family like mine. For an additional $15 we were able to get a rolling cot brought to our room. Our balcony looked out over towards the river and we could see the wooden covered bridge as well as the Family Fun center where the tube slide and body slide shoot out the side of the tower.

Throughout the Inn you can find small details that added to the Bavarian feel. Dolls, colourfull patterns on carpets and drapes and hand painted murals are some of the things that made us feel as though we were actually in a Bavarian village. Located in the Bavarian Inn is Oma’s restaurant and a lounge. We were there on a Friday night and enjoyed live entertainment while we had a late dinner. Children were allowed in the lounge until 10pm. After that it was adults only. Across the parking lot and through the covered bridge is the Bavarian Inn Restaurant (I will be posting about that later). You can walk or take the complimentary shuttle to the restaurant to enjoy an authentic traditional German style meal in one of their beautiful dining rooms. After that I suggest checking out their unique shops.

We were there just before Halloween and there was so much for the family to do.

The staff of the Bavarian Inn were so friendly and welcoming. They brought us extra towels and blankets as my mom tagged along for the visit. They were always smiling and happy to help direct us as needed. We had a great time visiting at the Lodge. Below are some of the fun things we did while we were at the Bavarian Inn Lodge. You will see all the detailed decor for the season and the hand-painted murals as well as the fun for all who visit.

There is no shortage of food either. You can eat in the restaurant, lounge or your room. There is even a gift shop on site with yummy treats and German wine and beer.

The Family Fun Center is a great place to enjoy your stay. 18 hole mini golf, video games, cafe and Bavarian themed play center are great for the children. Then there is the four indoor pools, 2 water slides and 3 whirlpools. We had so much for the kids did not want to leave. The water slide requires a wristband you get when you register and the mini golf passes can be purchased at any time.

family fun

My daughter loved playing in the small heated pool and my boys who are both teens loved the slides. I lost count how many times they went up the stairs and down the slides. I even went myself a few times. It was a blast! My mom did not bring her swimsuit but that was ok. there were lots of chairs set up for family to still hang out. Lots of towels as well. The pools do close in the middle of the day around check out for cleaning, but they are open late daily.

I know I said the Bavarian Inn Lodge is a fun family destination, however it would also be a great weekend getaway for couples. There are many elements that are very romantic as well as an adult only pool and Jacuzzi. Plus all the wine and beer you can taste is amazing. We are looking forward to visiting again. We love visiting Frankenmuth and very much enjoyed the Bavarian Inn Lodge.

The next time you are planning a getaway, check out the Bavarian Inn Lodge in Frankenmuth. You will be glad you did. They have free WiFi as well 🙂

I've not heard of this town before as I'm in the West, but I've been to a similar town in Washington State where it had that "Bavarian" feel to it – restaurants, shops. In the summer the flower boxes on the windows were so pretty.

    Cheers.
