LeapFrog Read with me Scout Review

read with me scout dog

Little one is in kindergarten and learning to read. Every day she comes home with more and more words, letters and sounds she has discovered. It is a magical time and very exciting! We read every night the books the teacher sends home as well from her large library of books. But sometimes it is nice for her to read on her own. I love toys that encourage learning and interactive play time. Toys that teach as well as allow your child to have fun and grow. The Read with me Scout dog from LeapFrog does all of this. This adorable green plush dog is a fun learning tool for any child. You can also find Violet who is the “girl” version and purple from LeapFrog.

Read With Me Scout and Read With Me Violet

Ages 2 to 5 years $39.99

Read With Me Scout and Read With Me Violet are new interactive plush puppies that read stories aloud and interact with a child to develop comprehension skills, an essential first step on a child’s path to reading. Research has demonstrated that the most effective read aloud experiences are those in which children are actively involved in asking and answering questions, and making predictions rather than passively listening.

Easy to use, amazingly responsive and small enough for a child to take anywhere, the Tag reader brings books to life with just one touch. A small, sophisticated infrared camera at the tip “reads” letters, words and symbols printed on the special dot-patterned pages of products in the Tag library. The Tag library also includes large, full-colour, interactive world maps, to help kids explore their world, as well. New game books like Disney® Pixar Pixar Pals Puzzle Time and The Penguins of Madagascar: Penguin Puzzle Time take kids beyond reading and into puzzles, games, word searches and more, for hours of fun.

Read With Me Scout was specifically designed to create interactive reading experiences. As children read along, 70+ spoken questions and audio-responses keep them engaged and help them build reading comprehension skills.

Each plush puppy is loaded with storybooks, music, lullabies and interact-and respond activities. Scout and Violet respond to the child’s every pet, pat, hug and kiss with fun audio that reinforces the learning. Children will press a button on the puppy’s collar to choose one of the books and start reading, and pat their puppy’s head to turn the page. Scout and Violet love to sing, too! Parents can switch Scout and Violet into Sleepy Time Mode to listen to relaxing stories and eight minutes of lullabies.

I love that my daughter can either pick a book and push the coloured button to start or push the button first and Scout will help her choose the book. He gives descriptive words and she can figure out his directions with ease. While reading together Scout is a lot of fun. Asks questions and keeps it exciting. Pat his head or squeeze his foot for interaction. We gave Scout to our daughter for Christmas and she loves reading with him. A real fun way to learn! Playing with Read with me Scout helps with her listening skills, word recognition and vocabulary skills.  I can not wait for her teacher to ask what we have been doing, I know she will notice a difference.
