Staying at The WESTIN Detroit Metropolitan Airport while at #FordNAIAS

The Detroit Metropolitan airport is a great place to fly out for Canadians and Americans. When we flew down to Florida we left from there and saved a  lot of money. For many residents of Ontario it is just a quick jump over the boarder. Conveniently the airport has accommodations located on site as well.  A great option if you are staying for just a night or even a few days on business or taking in local events and attractions. The Westin Detroit Hotel is located attached to the terminal. Hall wall is in the airport. So close you do not even need to step outside!

While checking out the North American International Auto Show with Ford we loved the convenience of a hotel so close to the airport. When it was time to leave, a free shuttle picked us up outside the door to take us to the other terminal.

The WESTIN Detroit Metropolitan Airport has rooms to fit every need and budget. Their indoor heated pool and workout fitness studio are sure to keep you active while you enjoy your stay. With internet service throughout the hotel and a business center you are in  the right place for work when you need to be. A mobile office with everything you need to be productive! The WiFi in the rooms was a small fee and needed to be registered every 24 hours. There was also WiFi in the lobby and other areas. With the amount of media in the hotel I was surprised at how good the connection actually was. I never got booted.

The Westin hotel is part of the Starwood Hotels & Resorts family of hotels. I have had the pleasure of staying at one while visiting Blue Mountain last summer.

The first thing you see when entering the Westin  and going down the stairs is the tall , impressive Bamboo. This is an amazing thing to see if you have never experienced the massive size before.

Dining ate the Westin Detroit

There is a restaurant location on the lobby level of the hotel. Room service and a mini bar (which is locked but you can request the key) There is in room coffee and room service available as well. Since we were there as a group we ate in a designated area which was beautiful. Located in the heart of the hotel beside the pond. Lots of room for a large gathering.

My room

I had a King size bed all to myself. This big comfy bed allowed me to drift off so quickly I made sure to call ahead for a wake up call. There was a reading chair, desk with chair, lounge chair and safe. As well as plenty of closet and drawer space for my clothes and belongings. The bathroom has everything I needed and a fantastic rain-fall shower head.

The view was not all that impressive outside my window. Looking out I saw a parking garage for the airport.  But I only heard the airplanes a few times while there though. There are also rooms on the opposite side of the hall. These look over the lobby, a really nice, peaceful view. Since I was hardly in my room accept to sleep, the view did not matter 🙂

Westin Detroit

The hotel is set up to host meetings and events so this location was perfect for all the media there with Ford. The one evening we enjoyed a delicious dinner with story telling from  The Moth in this perfect space.

For me, this hotel for this visit was perfect! It was the perfect jumping off point to get to the North American International Auto Show in Down town Detroit as well as Dearborn Michigan. Both locations  had us busy and entertained while we were there.

Next time you are flying out of Detroit, check out The Westin for a stay.

Have you visited this hotel before? What are your thoughts?

Disclosure: Ford Motor Company paid for my transportation, accommodations and food. I was not compensated for my time. I was not asked to write blog posts or promote NAIAS or the experience on social media. I did this on my own

  1. I haven't stayed at The Westin but it seems like a great option for a stay in Detroit since its right at the air port rather than right downtown or somewhere perhaps a bit more intimidating for the Canadian traveller. The rooms certainly look comfortable!

  2. I've never stayed there before, but looks like a great place. The view isn't really a big deal for me, since I typically only use hotels to sleep in lol. As long as the noise is under control, then I don't mind a parking garage view lol.

  3. I have a layover in Detroit almost every flight I take. I will keep this in mind if ever am there overnight.

  4. I'm not sure if I've ever been to Detroit. We drove though MI when I was a kid – even up north but so long ago I don't remember. Looks like a good hotel option!

  6. Nice looking hotel! I love that it's connected right to the airport, so convenient. I'll keep this in mind for layovers!

  7. What a great hotel. I love that you don't even have to step outside from the airport to get to it!

  8. I have stayed at Westin hotels before and they were all fabulous. This one looks great too especially if you are close to the border. You're right that you can save a lot – hundreds- if flying from the US.

I'm with Brandi on this one – don't really care about the view All I want is a good night's sleep. Especially if the kids aren't with me hahaha

This Westin looks fabulous. I can't say I have ever had a king sized bed all to myself but it sounds totally decadent! I love that it, (the hotel not the king sized bed…lol) is attached to the airport; makes commuting infinitely easier.
