Butterfly Conservatory Niagara Falls

One of my favourite memories of my older children being young, is visiting the Butterfly Conservatory many years ago. Our oldest son had spilled some Ginger-ale on himself seconds before we entered. The sweetness made the butterflies land ll over him. It was so beautiful and so much fun! It had been many years since we went there so I was really excited to go back.

Last weekend, Easter weekend, I went with three of my children. The teen boys and my little daughter. Being park of the Niagara Parks attractions, admission for children 5 and younger are free.

Located 10 minutes north of the Falls, the Butterfly Conservatory. The conservatory is 180 metres of plants, pathways and waterfalls. Add in 45 species of butterflies to create an environment of over 2000 fluttering around you. There are lots of benches and rocks to sit on. So watch where you sit, butterflies are everywhere. We had them landing on us as we walked through.

When we first walked in we checked out he reptile exhibit. Snakes, spiders and rats as well as other animals on display. My daughter was thrilled to pet a live snake. It was so much fun!

Swamp Creatures exhibit

On now until May 11, Swamp Creatures features fascinating animals from the world’s wetlands. Discover incredible hands-on learning, fun and educational interpretation and of course incredible live demonstrations. Swamp Creatures is included with regular admission to the Butterfly Conservatory.

From there we walked through the atrium where all the butterflies are. This humid environment has the most beautiful plants and flowers I have ever seen. Tropical flowers and fruits growing around. Being able to see the butterflies through every stage of their life was exciting and educational. We spent over an hour there taking pictures and exploring. It was just as great as I remember it was years ago.

Since it was Easter, little one did an Easter egg hunt. She marked off the check list and answered the questions. At the end, in the gift shop she got a chocolate treat.

Next time you visit Niagara Falls be sure to check out the Butterfly Conservatory. You will be glad you did!

There is a place on VI called 'Butterfly Gardens' that I think is still open…I love butterflies but rarely see any.

Sounds like a wonderful visit! I must remember to spill something sweet to attract the butterflies, LOL. It would be such a lovely experience to have them land all over you 🙂 I think I would be skipping the snakes though.. 🙁
