This weekend I had the pleasure of hanging out in Niagara Falls Ontario with three of my children. We spent the night and saw some of the sites. Niagara Falls is one of our favourite places to visit all year long. There is so much to do there no matter what the weather is. It has been many years since I went behind the falls so I was excited to go this time with the kids. Located just pass the gift shop at Table Rock welcome centre you will find the entrance to Journey Behind the Falls. Pay for your ticket at the wicket or trade in your Wonder Pass then go down the elevator. The elevator takes you down 150 feet to the tunnels.
When I was a kid I remember the tunnels being more sweaty, leaking in spots. This time they were painted and more comforting. There was still a feeling of overwhelming excitement though. Knowing the waterfalls are crashing down so close. Knowing how far down we were and knowing above us was water. Lots and lots of water. Even though spring is here there was still lots of snow at the base of the falls. So the tunnels were chilly and a bit wet. I recommend you bring a jacket or sweater even if the day is warm. The one observation deck was closed due to snow but two look outs were open. And an area we could step out and really look around. We were able to look down to the closed deck and see all of the snow.
The water was so close and so powerful! It was quite the rush! My kids loved every minute of it! The entire tour behind the falls was about 40 minutes. You can take your time and spread it out more or speed things up if you like. For the ride up and down in the elevator you are guided by staff. I found them to be friendly and knowledgeable every step of the way.

This was the view from the upper observation deck at the foot of the Falls. Below is a picture of the lower observation deck from the top. See how high the snow is.
Hours vary day to day but we went on a weekend and it was open until 8 pm. Little one being 5 was free as all children 5 and under are free at Niagara Parks attractions.
Walk to the end of this tunnel to look out to the Falls crashing down past you. The sound and feeling is amazing!
There is no bathroom in the tunnels but there is at the top of the elevator. You can also purchase a picture of your group in front of the green screen after your trip down. The picture is of you in front of the falls. A fun keep sake! Like most attractions you exit through the gift shop. This is a fun place to find items from all over Canada, not just Niagara Falls. A great attraction to bring visiting friends or family and a wonderful place to take your family. We are already planning our next visit to the area.
Summer visitors will recieve a complimentary poncho to help keep you dry when on the lower observation deck.

I live 15 minutes from the falls and I've yet to venture behind the falls, funny how we don't appreciate the things that are so close to us..I need to be a guide for family on their next visit and get myself there…lol

Sounds like an wonderful trip and it might be time to do one myself. I have not done the "traditional" Niagara Falls tourist attractions since I was kid and it would be great to tour behind the falls again.
Hubby and I spent our honeymoon in Niagara Falls years ago, so we did the tourist thing ~ going under the falls. I remember the yellow poncho's we had to wear, and have the pictures from that day. It was a lot of fun.
