Excited for the #BBFFarmTour Checking out a Family Farm

I call myself a city girl because I grew up in the city.

However shortly after becoming a mom I was happy to live on the outskirts. The more children we had the farther into the country we moved.

I very much love the city life, but the rural life has its appeal! Where we live we are surrounded by farms, rivers and beaches. Many different farms, some large, some small. some that may provide the food you eat in your home. The country life is a great community with great neighbours. Our neighbours all help each other when needed, look out for one another and work hard. As you can imagine, family is an important part of each of these farms. I see them running the farm together, supporting each other, working at the markets etc. They all contribute to make the farm run smooth and succeed. Without the strength and dedication f these families, farms would not thrive and we would not have the bounty that is available to us.

It has been quite a while since I saw what happens behind the scenes of a family run farm. I had the pleasure of attending a field trip recently with my youngest and we saw the Maple Syrup process. But the farm portion itself, did not last long. I would have enjoyed seeing more of the farm life and their daily routine. Years ago we use to visit a small farm we lived near. It was great being up close to the animals and seeing first hand where our food came from.

Luckily for me I get to check out Burnbrae Farms.

On June 9th and 10th along with a fabulous group of Canadian bloggers, I get to visit a farm in Eastern Ontario. A family run farm that is part of Burnbrae Farms.

Burnbrae Farms has its origins in a farm outside the village of Lyn, which is near Brockville in Eastern Ontario, Canada. The farm, known as Burnbrae Farms, has been in the Hudson family for over 120 years.

I hope you follow along and discover farm life with me and the other bloggers as we see how the hens are raised and the process of getting the eggs to the grocery store and our table from the farm. You can follow the hashtag #BBFFarmTour

Have you ever wondered about eggs? Handling them, cooking them and different ways to prepare? I am excited to learn about this and some recipes so my family can enjoy the benefits of them more.

Comments

  1. I hope you have a fun and informative visit.

  2. Sounds like fun. I toured a big farm last year and was amazed at how high tech farming has become. The farmers all had college degrees, and they had an animal nutritionist to find the optimal feed for the animals.

  3. Lucky you, what fun! Believe it or not, I have always dreamed of a farm vacation and someday hope to own a farm! I will be following along and living vicariously through you and the other bloggers. Have fun!

My youngest dog was breed on a farm with pigs and cows and horses. I love being around animals. Have you ever heard of Polyface Farms run by Joe Salatin? He was on TED about organic farming and soil quality.

Sounds like you had a great outing. I remember staying at a friends farm when I was little. My grandma also had chickens for years and years. To this day those things creep me out.
