Challenges with Sugared Beverages Being Ignored

nestle-pure-life

Staying hydrated is an important part of living a healthy lifestyle, but on average, moms are consuming between three to four soft drinks per week. With the average soft drink containing 10 teaspoons of sugar per container, and an average 355 ml glass of orange juice containing just over 8 teaspoons, Canadians should be looking for healthier options.

Live Healthy. Live Bubbly. 7-DAY CHALLENGE
As part of its commitment to helping families live healthier lives, Nestlé Waters Canada is challenging Canadians to take the Live Healthy. Live Bubbly. 7-DAY CHALLENGE and swap one sugared beverage with Nestlé® Pure Life® Sparkling Natural Spring Water, in great tasting Original, Lemon, Lime, Mandarin Orange and Raspberry Lime, for seven days to kick start their efforts to reduce their sugar intake.

I am like many moms, I worry about how much sugar my children and myself take in , in a day. When you really look into it, there is way more sugar in beverages than you would think. You may be surprised how much sugar is in juice too!

Did you know a sizeable portion of moms are not making any effort to replace pop with healthier alternatives?  Younger moms mostly substitute soft drinks for juice (40%) – but some fruit juices contain as much or even more sugar than soft drinks.

REASON FOR CONCERN
When thinking about the number of teaspoons of sugar an average soft drink contains, just two in ten moms correctly identified 10 teaspoons per container. Juice can also come in at a high count with an average 355 ml glass of orange juice containing just over 8 teaspoons. To put this into perspective, the World Health Organization recently suggested that daily sugar intake be six teaspoons for the average adult – a fraction of the 26 teaspoons per day Statistics Canada says the average adult consumes.

Live Healthy. Live Bubbly.
7-DAY CHALLENGE

I pledge to swap one sugared beverage each day with one can or bottle of Nestlé® Pure Life® Sparkling Natural Spring Water
for the next 7 days to live a healthier, more bubbly life.

Hopefully you realize how important it is to have water as part of your routine. How much do you actually drink?

  1. I drink lots of water, but it does get very boring and tasteless after awhile, and I will grab a pepsi which I know is not good for you, but tastes so darn good, I'm going to have to find these Nestlé Waters, much, much better than pepsi!

  2. I go through phases where I drink lots of water then other when it is not nearly enough. Love the idea of convenient flavoured water that is not in plastic bottles.

  3. I’d love to take on that challenge! 🙂 Will have to see if I can find a case at the grocery store later this week. Cola is my one vice, but it’s more because of carbonation rather than the taste of it, so am looking forward to trying out the mandarin one, cause that sounds yummy!

  4. I drink a ton of water, but I ma guilty of reaching for a Pepsi or Sprite a few times a week. Its disgusting how much sugar is in them, and i often think to myself, why do i not allow my children to drink pop, and reach for it myself.
These look like yummy alternatives for when I need a break form water

  5. What a great challenge, honestly, I HAVE to have water throughout the day, I can't go without but, I do love my bubbly. So, this would be a tasty swap. I'm in.

  6. I drink lots of water – especially when at work. I love that Nestle has new Sparkling waters out. I'd be so interested to try these.

  7. I drink several glasses of water each day, nice alternative though

  8. The only things I really drink are water and milk. I LOVE water and always make sure to drink lots of it. This sounds tasty and I LOVE that it's not in plastic bottles!! I think this would be really great especially for someone like my dad who loves carbonated drinks but has to steer clear of soda for health reasons.

Must admit that I am guilty of this. I have one can of Fresca a day. It's sugar-free but the sugar replacement isn't good for you either.

I`ll have to check this out! I do drink a lot of water and sometimes diet pop, but not a lot of it. This sounds like a better alternative!

  13. I do not drink enough water, but I do like the sparkling waters. I crave flavour.

  14. I am always surprised by the amount of juice that parents allow their children. This sounds like a great alternative if you want something a little snazzier than water, or the water with lemon/lime slices we give the kids.
