Homemade Apple Crisp Recipe

Last month I had the pleasure of attending my daughters field trip to the local apple orchard with her and her class. It was a rainy day but we had a lot of fun. Wagon rides, apple cider, pumpkin picking and a trail walk through the woods. I got a huge bag of apples and could not wait to get them in some recipes. The first I tried was Apple Crisp. Since it had been a while since I made it, it did not last long. The family ate it up quick loving every bite. The next day I made two more in hopes it would last the week.

Everyone in my family eats their apple crisp differently. I like it in a bowl with a bit of cream. My boys like it with ice cream and everyone else likes it with Cool Whip.

Apple Crisp

1/2 cup 125 mL

All Purpose Flour
3/4 cup 175 mL

1/2 cup 125 mL packed brown sugar
1 tsp 5 mL ground cinnamon
1/3 cup 75 mL butter

6 cups 1.5 L sliced apples
3/4 cup 175 mL granulated sugar
2 tbsp 30 mL water
1 tbsp 15 mL lemon juice

  1. Preheat oven to 375ºF (190ºC).
  2. Topping: Combine flour, oats, brown sugar and cinnamon in medium bowl. Cut in butter with pastry blender or two knives until mixture is crumbly. Set aside.
  3. Fruit: Arrange apples in greased 9″ (23 cm) square baking dish or 1 1/2 qt (1.5 L) casserole. Sprinkle with sugar, water and lemon juice.
  4. Sprinkle topping evenly over fruit.
  5. Bake in preheated oven for about 40 minutes, or until fruit is tender-crisp.
This is great with Thanksgiving dinner, any family meal or just because!

  1. thank you so much for the recipe! my husband is not a huge fan of sweets but he LOVES apple crisp as do I. we have bought store brand apple crisp but definitely need to do it myself. nothing beats home made 🙂

  2. Yum. We went apple picking just yesterday – we're putting some applesauce in the slowcooker this morning (OK, APPLES. We're putting APPLES in the slowcooker this morning to MAKE applesauce), maybe apple crisp should be tomorrow!

This recipe is very similar to mine except I've learned the kids don't like the oats. Thanks for the idea of eating the apple crisp with cream. Are you talking 1/2 and 1/2 or whole milk??
