Keeping Your Family Protected From Germs #SpreadCheerNotGerms

Every winter we get a terrible case of the flu in our home. Even with us all having the flu shot it seems to hit us hard. Maybe it is not always the flu, but some colds seem to be just as nasty and last just as long. Having three school-aged children in the house bringing germs constantly, there is nowhere to run when the germs decide to take over. Yes, we do seem to have a better defense against most germs being around children, but we still can get sick. As mom, I try and try to keep the house relatively germ free and illnesses under control (if that is really possible). Constant hand washing is the biggest part of this, as is using Lysol. It comforts me that Lysol kills 99.9% of bacteria and viruses. Seeing how long it takes a virus to leave our house, the key is to keep it out to begin with! After all we cannot make our children stop touching everything while in public can we?!?

A few weeks back I was the sickest I had been in ages. I was rundown, feverish and could not get out of bed for three days. Shortly after I was feeling better, my boys were both sick and hubs got sick too. All because the little one came home with a cold of some sort from school a few days earlier. She luckily had it easy compared to the rest of us. I am thankful it did not stay for a second round, I was quite worried. But it did take almost a month to completely leave our home for good.

When it comes to cold and flu season, prevention is key!

Using Lysol Disinfectant Spray on door handles and other surfaces like remote controls, the house phone and decorative vases. Lysol wipes on hard surfaces will clean and disinfect away the germs. When hand washing, use Lysol Hand Soap in the No Touch system to wash hands frequently. I love the peace of mind when using knowing Lysol is safe for my children’s items and where my dogs walk around.

After we were all sick I did not want this to happen again, so I got proactive. First thing I did once my energy was back was wipe down my house. I sprayed anything that could not be wiped and opened the windows. The clean smell and fresh air through the house made me feel better instantly. Even though I now have my flu shot, I still make this part of my daily routine (wiping everything down). Especially in the kitchen and in the bathroom, common areas of our home.

How else can you prevent the cold and flu from hitting your family?

  1. Eat your greens
  2. Wash your hands
  3. Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects
  4. Cover your mouth and nose when coughing (not with your hand)
  5. Get some sun
  6. Use disposable wipes, paper towels and cups to keep germs away
