5 things to do this Winter in Lake Placid #PerfectDayADK

As most of us sit here surrounded by beautiful freshly fallen white powdered snow we wonder what can we do to make the most of this winter? I remember as a child playing out in the snow tobogganing and having snow balls fights with my sister. As the years pass by most of us play outside in the winter less and less. I want to take back winter and have fun again! Last week I shared with you a little bit about Lake Placid and a few of the great things to do there. This week I wanted to go into more detail so you can plan your perfect winter getaway.

5 things to do this Winter in Lake Placid

A girls weekend getaway

With the unique shops located in the village and the Spa and Wellness centers, this is a great destination for a girls weekend getaway. Many of the shops located on main street in the village are run by the owners themselves. You know you will get the best personal shopping experience possible with the store owner behind the counter. This personal touch surely adds to the small town charm of the area.

A short drive by car or trolley and you are at even more stores surrounding the area. Unique shops, bakeries, wineries and antique stores are just a few of the options you will have. Take this time to get to know the area and the people who live there, chat them up to find where the locals go. Grab lunch then head back to the spa for a little R&R.

The Adirondack spas and salons are filled with experienced professionals, quality products and signature treatments. Check out the packages offered at one of the many locations for your various needs. Nothing feels better after a day of shopping than a little message therapy! You will surely leave feeling rejuvenated and refreshed.

A romantic setting for two

Lake Placid can be where it all begins if you would like to plan a weeding or renew your vows. It also is a great destination for a romantic getaway! A couples message would be the perfect way to start off a romantic weekend in Lake Placid. Followed by some of the fun outdoor activities like skating on the Olympic Oval or dog sledding together. Visiting the frozen falls is a beautiful and memorable way to pass the afternoon. This beautiful scenic area is a lovely back drop for photographs.

The evenings can be filled with drinks by the fire and an intimate dinner at one of the many fine dining restaurants. Accommodations like a Bed and Breakfast or one of the full service resorts would make this a weekend to remember.

Family travel and fun

When you travel with children it is important to have a wide variety of activities and dining options. Everyone has different interests and vacations are the time to make the most of them. Lake Placid has shopping and dining options for every member of your family. Family friendly restaurants featuring children’s menus with foods our picky eaters are sure to enjoy.

There are no shortage of activities either. Of course kids have no problem finding things to do in the snow, but in case you want to change it up the possibilities are endless. Some of the family friendly activities include tobogganing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. It is safe to say if you can do it in the snow , you can do it in Lake Placid.

There are many lodging choices for your family. Check out the website for all there is to find what is right for your family and their needs. Ending a winter adventure with the family snuggled up in front of a fire place sounds like a perfect family getaway to me. Lake Placid is dog friendly so if your family includes a furry friend, bring them along!

Local events

Many people like to have their travel plans jam packed with things to do. Visiting Lake Placid during an event is a sure way to keep busy. In the winter months there will be some kind of activity going on like a ski festival, hockey tournament. In February there is the winter carnival for ten days. This celebration includes a parade, fireworks, games, exhibits and family fun.  There is also Maple weekends in March where you can see the process of collecting and making Maple Syrup, as well as tasting it.

If you are looking to tour the area, why not go by horse? You can go on a family sleigh ride or by horse back. See the ‘Events’ tab for current events.

Adventure for all

What would you consider an adventure? An adventure is an exciting or unusual experience, that may be bold, risky or with an uncertain outcome. An adventure makes your heart beat fast and excites you. Traveling is all about the experience, a chance to get out and try something new. Lake Placid has more pout door activities that will add adventure than you can fit in, in just a weekend. Ice fishing and ice climbing are just a couple of these fun activities you would not normally find yourself doing.

If you are looking for a once in a life time experience you can tour Lake Placid’s Olympic sites where you can experience the ski jumps, take a bobsled ride and, on many occasions, see Olympic athletes training. Lake Placid is the two-time home of the Winter Olympic Games after all.

Looks like a fun place to stay! it's great that they've kept the olympic venues up and nice, I know a lot of places basically let them fall apart after the games are over.
