Cinderella Screening review #CinderellaMoment

Enchantingly magical.
Last night I was one of the lucky few who saw a preview screening of Disney’s new imagining of My personal favourite: Cinderella.
As we entered the theater two footmen in full regalia opened the doors for us, elegance and oh so fun!
Upstairs I made a beeline, literally as I saw on display, sparkling away, yes, it was there: Cinderella’s glass slipper! Eeeeeeeeeeee! My poor husband knows to just let me go at this point, and did laughingly.
But I digress. We had a movie to see.
But first, Disney had a special treat, a new Frozen short. Yes Anna, Elsa and indeed Olaf were back on screen and without spoiling it, you’ll find yourself singing along on the ‘perfect day’ before it’s over.
After seeing (and loving to the point I’ve watched it about 15 times now) Maleficent, I was wondering how this one would be re-imagined and work out.
It did not disappoint.
First off, having Lily James introduce the film (Cinderella herself) was a really lovely touch. It just added to the magic of the evening seeing her in-person.
The film itself surpassed my expectations in every way. A few small tweaks to the traditional Disney plot (which I expected after Maleficent), but on the whole it stayed true.
The special effects were seamlessly incorporated (the mice for example) and the casting could not have been better. You will actually love to dislike Cate Blanchet as the evil stepmother.
And Prince Charming wasn’t exactly hard on the eyes either ;).
The costumes and colours were so vibrant and alive, you really did get swept up in the movie. When Cinderella dances and her exquisite flowing gown swishes you can almost feel the fabric.
I literally could not stop smiling and even ran to the store this morning for the soundtrack.
A true fairytale that has not lost any of the magic that Disney brings to its interpretations, this will be a classic as soon as you see it.
Simply put, go see it. I’m already trying to pick a day to go see it again myself ;).

CINDERELLA

The story of “Cinderella” follows the fortunes of young Ella (Lily James) whose merchant father remarries following the death of her mother. Eager to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new Stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and her daughters Anastasia (Holliday Grainger) and Drisella (Sophie McShera) into the family home. But, when Ella’s father unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family.

Soon, she is forced to become their servant, disrespected, covered in ashes and spitefully renamed Cinderella. Yet, despite the cruelty inflicted upon her, Ella will not give in to despair nor despise those who mistreat her, and she continues to remain positive, determined to honour her mother’s dying words and to “have courage and be kind.”

When Ella meets a dashing stranger in the woods, unaware that he is really the Prince (Richard Madden) and not merely Kit, an apprentice at the palace, she believes she has finally found a kindred soul. It appears her fortunes may be about to change when the King (Derek Jacobi) summons all maidens in the kingdom to attend a royal ball at the palace, raising Ella’s hopes of once again encountering the charming Kit. Alas, her Stepmother forbids her to attend and callously destroys her dress.

Meanwhile, the calculating Grand Duke (Stellan Skarsgård) devises a plan to thwart the Prince’s hopes of reuniting with Ella and enlists the support of the devious Stepmother. But, as in all good fairy tales, help is at hand. Soon, a kindly beggar woman (Helena Bonham Carter) steps forward and, armed with a pumpkin, a few mice and a magic wand, changes Cinderella’s life forever.

In theatres March 13th. Will you be watching?

I've been dying to see this movie since I saw the first trailer! It is DD3's favourite Disney show and I'd love to spend the day at the movies with her. I know its not cartoon, but is it too grown up/scary for a 3 year old? She has older brothers and is fine watching non animated shows!
