Family Friendly Eaton Chelsea in Downtown Toronto

I have been to Toronto many times over the years. Often I go alone or with friends for blog events and conferences. So taking the kids was a bit different, a good different. At first I was a bit nervous as i was unsure how my children would like the big city, would there be anything for them to even do?

All I can say is I wish we had had more time. They had a blast and loved every minute of their stay in Toronto at the Eaton Chelsea Hotel. It was March Break so there were way more activities for kids than normal and it was busy, but it was fun. If you are looking for a place to stay close enough to walk and bus to attractions, I highly recommend staying there.

We arrived just before check in and parked underground. It was well lit and marked so we made our way quickly to the lobby. The line was a bit long, but the hotel anticipated this. They had entertainment for the kids to keep busy while they waited. Face painting, a talking robot and even kids only check in where they receive a special gift for themselves. My six year old loved this! She had a smile from year to year the entire time we were there.

Our room was clean and spacious with a balcony that had an amazing view of the streets below and neighbouring buildings. The feeling of being so high looking down on such a busy city was exciting for this self proclaimed people watcher. All rooms are equipped with technological conveniences and amenities, including basic complimentary Wireless Internet.

Fun for all

The hotel was perfect for kids of all ages! A family pool with waterslide equipped with floating toys and life jackets if needed as well there was a hot tub. There are change rooms and towels located at the pool for your convenience. The family fun zone also included a kid centre for slower paced activities and crafts. As well as a lounge for teens full of games, a pool table and video games.

Measuring 130 ft, the four-storey ‘Corkscrew’ takes guests on a twisty adventure that loops around outside the hotel walls before splashing back to the pool below.

For those traveling without children or wanting a few minutes child free, there is an additional pool and an adult only gym located in the hotel. Babysitting service is provided on site for a fee as well.

We were very fortunate to be there during March Break. Eaton Chelsea planned on the place being full of kids and they has a mad Scientist on site one day and an exotic petting zoo another. My daughter was thrilled to have the once in a life time experience of feeding and petting a full grown Kangaroo.

Hands on Exotics brought in a huge assortment of animals. A fully grown Kangaroo,  a Boa, and a Cockatoo were just a few that the crowd of happy children were allowed to pet, feed and interact with. The handlers taught the children all about each animal and were great at controlling the excited little guests.

Dining options

There is a pub and a couple of restaurants on site. We ate breakfast the one morning at T Bar which was lovely. A smaller restaurant with an amazing menu and super friendly staff. Every single item was picture perfect and my daughter thought it was so fancy!

This impressive new modern and vibrant lobby lounge is the latest addition to the Chelsea Hotel Hotel. It features a scrumptious and varied à-la-carte menu prepared from local ingredients.

We also ate at the Market Garden and espresso coffee bar. This self serve option is the most affordable and family friendly option in the hotel. It offers everything you can image from hot meals made while you wait to fruits and other snacks you can grab on the go. Cafeteria style with a buffet option. While we were there they were partnering with the new Pirate attraction and offering a special pirate themed buffet. We even had a special dinner with pirate entertainment.

Pirate Life is a brand new family attraction that caters to the imagination and sense of adventure in young children. It is suitable for all members of the family, we anticipate that the majority of our audience will be parents with children between the ages of 3 to 9. Families take part in a pirate role playing adventure/theatre on a one hour boat ride complete with costumes, face paint and pirate nicknames.

When it came time to check out the sites we were in the perfect spot. It took 25 minutes to walk to the CN Tower and Aquarium, less than 10 minutes to walk to Dundas Square, and 2 minutes to the YSL condos (theyslcondo.ca)
