How to make money Blogging

I am constantly surprised when people react shocked hearing that bloggers make money on their blogs. Do you think we sit in front of the computer for endless hours just for fun? Yes we love our blogs and we love the opportunities we get from them. But we have bills and overhead and need to make a living as well. I have seen bloggers make enough to support their families and I have seen some make enough to supplement a loss of income when on maternity leave, sick or traveling. Most bloggers I know are professional bloggers who work from home and make a full time living, all while having the freedom to help their family.

How to

There are many networks that will be the middleman and help connect bloggers with the brands looking to advertise. Companies turn to bloggers for word of mouth promotions as social media is growing and the fastest way to reach many. I find if you organically write about something, it will attract the right brands. If you write about travel, you will get travel opportunities. If you are a Green blogger and your content is about green living, you will be approached by the appropriate companies. When a company pitches you direct they usually have a set budget. It is up to you to negotiate your fee and payment terms. Some are more flexible than others.

You can also sell ad space on your side bar monthly. If you have not already, a great way is to place a button that says “advertise here”. Bloggers are also paid for social media shares and hosting giveaways. Sometimes product is offered in place of financial compensation, again this is up to you to negotiate. Joining an ad network that targets your readers is an effortless way to make money. You sign up, add a few codes and start making money The key to making money blogging is to have multiple income sources. As every network has ever changing budgets.

Affiliate links are another source of income for bloggers. Most online retailers have a link posted near the bottom for you to sign up. You can then add these links to your blog and your social medias sites for a commission. I personally only do a few as it is tough to find the ones that work well. But once you do, it is worth it. These are just a few to get you started. Be sure to fill your profile out completely when you are aproved. This increases your chances of being contacted. These networks work with bloggers in Canada and USA on sponsored posts. Register to their networks and sign up for the emails and notifications to be alerted when a job or opportunity is available to apply to. In no time you too will be making money on your blog.

Note- Some networks require a certain number of unique monthly visitors. Be sure to have analytics installed so you can provide this info. Also be aware of payment terms. NET 30, NET 60 and NET 90 are very common payment terms in this industry. Plan and budget ahead.

Disclosure- This post contains affiliate links where signing up through my links will send me a referral fee if you meet all criteria. However I would never recommend a network I was not signed up with myself.

I signed up with Tap over a year ago and have literally gotten nothing from them. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I am the oddball for you – I am a hobby blogger. The money making part was just not for me. While the money was great, it took the fun from blogging away for me (I know I am strange!). I will leave the money making part to those of you that need/want/enjoy it!

  3. Some people don't realize how much work it is to make money while blogging! Things like IZEA and linqia make it a lot easier though.

  7. I am terrible at affiliate links because I don't like to sell. I do hear they make good money for bloggers who do like to sell though!

  11. Being in Canada is HARD for me to get into a lot of these GREAT American programs, which really sucks. But I have gotten 2 campaigns from Tap until I changed my rate, and now I've gotten nothing lol. I am in some incredible programs which I'm so thankful for but as for all the amazing ones US have, it's sucky for us Canadians!

these are some great ways to make some extra cash. I do find however that the effort to write for some of these campaigns far outweigh the payments sometimes. I guess frequency and blog popularity adds to the equation
