Why Cuba Is Such a Great Holiday Choice

Cuba is the destination to be if you’re looking to combine serene beaches with great cultural and historical sites. Whether it’s strolling the old town of Havana, snorkeling and scuba diving, or pausing at some of the landmarks of the island’s colonial heritage, Cuba holidays are events that you will cherish. And as relations between Cuba and the United States continue to improve, these next couple years might be the last chance to see the country in the form so many have raved about. So here are a few fine reasons to head to Cuba now.

Old Havana

The cultural heart of Cuba, Old Havana is filled with pastel colored buildings, cobble stone streets, cafés, and bars that you could easily picture Ernest Hemingway taking a walk through or stopping for a refreshing Cuba Libre or Mojito. Exploring this area of town you’ll come across local music, the National Museum of Fine Art, National Museum of Music, Museum of Colonia Art and more.

Playa Ancon, Trinidad

This beautiful beach is located just outside of the scenic, relaxed colonial town of Trinidad, which on its own is a nice place to visit. Playa Ancon, however, will make the trip even sweeter, with its three miles of white sand and its options for both scuba diving and snorkeling. This beach is also one of the quieter ones in Cuba, as it tends to be less frequented by tourists.

Castillo el Morro

Morro Castle sits on the opposite side of the harbor from Old Havana, and was built originally in 1589 by the Spanish in response to raids on Havana harbor. The English eventually conquered the castle in the 18thcentury, but returned it to Spanish control a year later with the signing of a treaty. Today the castle is a prime exactly of early colonial defenses and is also home to a number of interesting exhibitions.

Hidden waterfalls and caves of Cuba

Cuba might be best known for its coastline, but the interior of the island is also home to some marvelous landscape that features a variety of waterfalls and caves to explore. The best places to explore are the Topes de Collantes Natural Park, and the Caves of Viñales, which feature a cliffside mural commissioned by Castro in 1930.

So whether you’re interested in getting outside and exploring all the wonders of Cuba, or plan to stick to the city and beach with a drink and a cigar in hand, there is no doubt that you’ll enjoy the experiences that Cuba holidays have to offer their visitors.
