Autumn in the Mountains: Park City Activities for All Ages

Park City in Utah becomes an amazing canvas of incredible colors when the fall comes around and it is not just the rich tapestry of autumnal colors that draw the visitors, there are plenty of things to do too.

After a long hot summer of fun, Park City doesn’t have any intention in letting up on the activities and events and here are some ideas to whet your appetite and inspire you to plan your next visit.

Hiking and biking

The cooler weather that heralds the arrival of autumn means that you can explore the 400 plus miles of trails and hikes in a little more comfort, and your efforts are often rewarded with some pretty spectacular views and a real riot of colors to waken your senses.

With so many different hiking and biking options, you might want to take advantage of Park City Lodging or arrange to stay close to the area, so you can spend a few discovering the various routes on offer.

Park City is a brilliant place for a mountain biking or hiking vacation and as some of the resorts do offer a lift service up the mountain, you have a choice of starting points and routes that are sure to inspire.

Silly Sunday

Sunday is a favorite family day and the Park Silly Sunday Market is a real favorite with families and their friends who gather to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and activities.

The market runs every Sunday from 10am to 5pm up until the third week of September and there is live music, activities and games to keep the kids amused and even a farmers market with lots of tempting food and local crafts and artwork to enjoy.

Big Sam

Swaner EcoCenter

Another good place to visit with the family is the Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter, which is educational and fun at the same time.

There is a 1,200 acre nature preserve to explore and the 10,000 sq ft EcoCenter offers displays and fascinating information about the surrounding area, which kids often find engaging and enjoyable as well as the chance to explore the vast outdoor areas.

Trick or treat time

One of the big events in the autumn calendar is Halloween and Park City offers its own version of the ghoulish celebrations with its Howl-O-Ween on Main Street.

Expect plenty of trick or treat opportunities and one of the features of the event is the chance to dress your dog in a Halloween costume, so that they can join in the fun too.

Scenic drives

It is worth repeating just how spectacular the Park City scenery really is, especially in the fall, so it going for a scenic drive is an event in its own right.

A favorite route is to drive from Park City and over Guardsman Pass, passing through Cascade Springs and right over the top of Alpine Scenic Loop. This and other scenic routes will provide plenty of photo-opportunities and will inspire you to explore further.

Park City offers activities for all ages all year round, but when you factor in the spectacular scenery created in the fall, it makes it a special time of the year to come and enjoy some family fun.
