Safari Tales – Educational Game app for kids

My children love technology! For kids these days it is just a way of life. They watch movies, play games and even stay connected with friends and family on their devices. My youngest who is six has had an iPad since she could walk and talk if not before. She loves to watch cartoons and listen to music on it. She also enjoys the games that we download on it for her. This is a great way to keep her occupied and happy when we go on long roads trips or when she is waiting for her brothers to finish up at their appointments. She may even know how to use it better now than I do some days.

Because this is such a handy device I am always on the look out for educational family friendly games she can play without me worrying. Age appropriate games that are both fun and allow her to learn while she plays. Recently I was introduced to Safari Tales, a learning-through-play app for kids. This app is geared towards children aged 4- 10 and helps them with their reading skills.

Safari Tales

Join five baby animal friends on an enchanting African adventure packed with fun, facts and unique stories on each and every play.

Safari Tales follows in the fossilised footsteps of the award-winning Dino Tales and opens up a world of exploration, learning and story-telling across the African savanna.

Seen through the eyes of five cute baby animals, Safari Tales sets young safari adventurers free to explore a fertile African world. There is a multitude of games to play, fossils to be found, and stickers to be collected. Discover thousands of facts by asking our wise, talking meerkat, Darwin, all your questions about safari animals.

Safari Tales is more than a game, it is also a beautiful storybook and animal encyclopedia! Children are both adventurer and storyteller – Safari Tales captures each play session and turns it into a delightful Storybook to be shared and read with parents and loved ones.

This fun app was quick and easy to install. It cost $4.59 CAD and is available on Google Play, iTunes, iOS and Amazon . I actually installed it on my PC via the Google store and it downloaded on my mobile device. I guess I have them connected some how.

First thing I noticed after installing and setting my daughter up were the parental controls in parental corner. This allowed me to set up my email to be notified of everything my child did while logged into the game. I was also able to set up a time limit she was allowed to play.

Parent Corner is a secure area where you can set child’s reading age, session length and get email notifications when your child creates a new game

The game starts off waking up a baby elephant and walking through the safari. Follow the footprints, or um paw prints to your destination. If you have any questions or get lost you can touch the meerkat face for help. Navigating through the game is really easy and I like that the child cannot walk off the cliff. Nothing is more frustrating than falling and ending the game. I do wish there was a map to click for ease of navigation to get a better look around but it really is not needed so I see why it is not added.

While playing you can also click on the easel to create a masterpiece. Your child can colour their baby animal and send you a copy to print, share and display if you like.

This is what her art work looked like within the game after she got creative with the berry blaster. She loves to be creative so this was a lot of fun and when she wanted to start over, all she had to do was use the soap (upper right corner)

Almost instantly after exiting out I received notification of this picture. I also received notification when she finished the chapter in the game. You can set this however you choose to.

I clicked and saw her beautiful creation!

Once the baby elephant finished the chapter and found the baby lion he went back to sleep. Then a new chapter begins….

When your child finishes the game it records their adventures and creates an interactive storybook which can be read with you. The storybook is all about what they did throughout the game. Words can be changed with synonyms in the storybook so kids can read and learn even at bedtime.

Following in the fossilised footsteps of award-winning DINO TALES™, children join five baby animal friends as they explore a vast African savannah teeming with wildlife, mini games to master and artefacts and relics to discover and collect. Throughout their in-game adventures, kids learn countless facts and figures about the various environments, their inhabitants and items they encounter on their way, building knowledge and enhancing reading skills.

At the end of each play session, SAFARI TALES uses patented technology to convert children’s adventures, discoveries and achievements into an incredible interactive storybook. Each new tale can be saved and stored to be read over and again with parents and loved ones, strengthening literacy, reasoning and enquiry skills.

SAFARI TALES further feeds inquisitive minds through an adaptive gaming engine built around Apple’s SIRI technology. Curious kids are encouraged to construct over a thousand different questions to ask their in-game guide, Darwin, who will supply intelligent and fact-filled answers, aiding literacy skills in sentence structure, reading and creative thought.

The jungle band was a fave as well! Your child can click on each animal to add them to the band and listen to them play together.

Like I mentioned before if your child has a question they can just ask Darwin for help.

As your child progresses through the game they can collect stickers to add to their collection. This is really fun if they have a friend or sibling who is playing as well so they can compare.

If you are looking for an affordable game that helps your child wit their reading and is fun, then you will want to check out Safari Tales today!
