Savoring Taiwanese Cuisine #savoringtaiwancuisine

One of the best things about traveling around the world is having the opportunity to try new things. Everywhere I go, I immerse myself in the local culture and learn what I can about the area and the people who call it home. I have never understood how people can travel around the world and not dive into the culture. This includes eating local foods!

When visiting a new place, I like to do as the locals do, shop where they shop, and eat where they eat. Some of the best meals I have eaten were in small restaurants off the beaten path at street vendors who put their everything into their cooking.

When visiting a new place, my taste-buds cry out to me as if they know, wanting to try everything possible. The variety of spices, taste combinations, and textures always excite me and seldom disappoint. I am willing to try almost anything at least once when dining around the world.

Taiwan is on my list of places to visit before my time is over. I have had the pleasure of enjoying some of their dishes in the past and look forward to more.  Taiwan is a small island nation east of China with contemporary cities, hot springs resorts, and dramatic mountainous terrain. Taipei, the country’s capital in the north, is known for its busy night markets and street-food vendors.

Taiwanese Food:

The emphasis in Taiwanese cooking is on light, natural flavors and freshness, and there is no pursuit of complex flavors. Another feature of Taiwanese cuisine is that tonic foods are prepared by using different types of medicinal ingredients for the various seasons of the year.

Created by Chef Chou from the city of Tainan in 1965. He sold a variety of street food in the township outside of his chef career, and his shrimp rolls quickly gained country-wide fame. Chef Chou then updated his recipe in the 80s, making the rolls out of fresh, juicy shrimps. Mixed with high-quality ground pork, fish paste, celery, and green onion, the shrimp rolls redefines happiness in every bite.
