5 Winter Destinations to Consider This Holiday Season

If winter has you itching to get away now is the perfect time to begin planning your winter escape. Whether it’s a winter wonderland you want to walk in or you would rather get away from the cold and enjoy warm weather there are locations perfect for each. You also may discover it’s possible to travel during this season and save money.

Hawaii

It may seem like Hawaii is out of reach for many travelers tourism to Hawaii is on a rise as airlines compete to win clients. This means great deals for you! Winter is also the ideal time to visit if you want to surf as it’s in winter when the big waves roll in. Of course you can always stay out of the water and just enjoy some world-class surfing competitions instead. Another activity that you’ll only be able to experience in winter is humpback whale watching. Four to six thousand whales migrate to the area in winter to mate and give birth.

Philadelphia

The city of brotherly love was recently named the first UNESCO world heritage city in the US and for good reason. The award is given to destinations that have made notable contributions to the world and a stroll through Independence Hall tells the story of the US and the democracy. Better yet the city is easy to reach from both Washington DC and New York City via trains or buses and the rest of North America through regular flights.

Banff National Park

A winter wonderland is what you’ll find in Banff. While this area is a luxury hot spot prices drop sometimes by as much as half during the winter season. If you love outdoor activites you can ski, snowshoe, dogsled in the area. If you’d rather stay inside choose any of the beautiful hotels like the Blackstone Mountain Lodge or Fairmont Banff Springs and toast your feet by a fire with a good book. Where better to experience the beauty of this season than in this winter wonderland?

Mexico and Central America

This is a big net to cast but cities across Mexico and Central America are seeing a huge uptick in affordably priced airfare from the United States and Canada. WestJet, JetBlue, and Spirit Air are all flying to locations throughout the region, often at prices that rival domestic destinations. You can save big on the ground too. Look for mid range properties and hotels offering free nights, such as stay 3 get 1 free deals.

Montreal, Quebec

If you dream of a European winter vacation but can’t swing the airfare set your sights on Montreal instead. You’ll feel like you’re walking through a French city instead. Air Canada and United airlines have many deals to the city. If you love all things winter, pack your parka and lace up your boots. Merry Montreal lasts from mid-December through January, Igloofest and Montreal en Lumiere are a few of the celebrations and festivals happening during winter months.

  1. I’ve always wanted to visit Hawaii. It’s on my bucket list.

  2. I can only dream of these vacations. Seems some days a vacation for me is going to the bathroom alone!! lol The joys of motherhood 🙂

  3. Rosanne Robinson says

I’ve been to Hawaii 3 times, but the last time was almost 30 years ago, so I and would LOVE to go back there again!

  4. I am planning to visit two of the places on my bucket list actually. So happy about that. Hawaii is a big one that we still hold as an ultimate dream travel escape. I am not able to make that one happen financially quite yet though. Maybe some day. That one requires a huge amount of planning and saving.

  5. Montreal is amazing in winter, freezing, but still a lovely city to visit and lots of skiing.
