I have family all over the world. Day to day it does not really bother me much being so far away from them. We all get busy and time on the phone seems to be more and more limited every year. Throw in time zones and it is often hard to coordinate a time to chat that all are awake. But sometimes the urge to reach out strikes and I pick up the phone, no matter what time it is.
With the holidays in reach I do miss my other family more and more. I have lots of family across the country and many I have not seen in years. Something about the holidays makes me want to connect more and reminisce. This year I promised myself to reach out to loved ones I have not talked to in a while more than usual. We are not getting any younger and we should make the most of every day. Connecting can be an email, a video chat call or the good old fashioned phone call. Reaching out and sharing a moment with a loved one can make a difference in your life and theirs.
One Christmas morning we set up the laptop and had my sister on video chat so she could watch the kids unwrap their presents. It felt like she was right there with us. We will always have that great memory. There are so many great ways for families to connect these days.
