Family Friendly Travel To Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is an island in the Caribbean and it is a favorite tropical destination for many.  The rainforests, mangrove forests, coral reefs and continuous sun make this island the perfect place for family vacations.

Packing for a vacation in Puerto Rico with children is very easy.  Everyone will need shorts, t-shirts and bathing suits and the girls might want a sundress or two.  Sunscreen and hats are two other must have items that will need to be packed in the suitcase.  Any citizens of the United States will not need to worry about having a passport, because Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the U.S.

The San Juan Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino is one of the best resorts to take children to.  Children stay free at the resort and there are plenty of amenities that they can enjoy.  The entire family can catch some waves in the ocean while swimming and riding boogie boards before heading back to the resorts two level pool.  Bike rentals are also available at no charge for up to two hours.

The National Park Service takes care of two different forts in the area.  At the Castillo San Felipe del Morro, the family can explore a castle type fort that began with the Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century.  The brick fort is six stories high and has passageways, turrets, cannons and ramparts.  The other fort in the area is the Castillo San Cristobal which is located on 27 acres of land.

At the Museo del Nino, the younger children will love the three levels of interactive exhibits.  They can climb a rock wall, race go karts and pet some animals at the zoo as well. Older children will want to ride the zip lines and traverse across the drawbridges at the Toro Verde Nature Adventure Park.

The entire family will have fun at the El Yunque National Forest, which is 28,000 acres.  This is the only tropical rainforest within the U.S. National Forest system and it has 24 miles of hiking trails.  The best trail for families with younger children is the .7 miles Big Trail with a view of the La Mini Falls.  Older children can do the 5 mile El Yunque Peak Trail which will take the entire family up to the 3,496 foot summit.

Puerto Rico vacations are perfect for families that want to spend a lot of time outside in the beautiful weather with plenty of sun.  Every trip to Puerto Rico is an experience and with so many activities available, families will want to return to the area again and again.
