When Moving Choose Master Lock Giveaway CAN

No matter who you are, chances are you will move at least once in your life. Finding the right place, scoping out the neighbourhood and packing boxes are just a few of the tasks associated with making a move to a new home. As exciting as a move can be, it can also be pretty stressful. We always end up losing things and breaking something along the way. Below are 10 tips to help your move go more smoothly.

moving tips

Pack an overnight bag containing all the essentials.

After a long day of moving all you want is a shower and to crawl into bed. Last thing you need is to have to unpack a bunch of boxes to find your toothbrush and jammies.

Label boxes with room to unpack them in as well as contents.

The more rooms and people you have the more boxes you will have. Having them clearly labeled will help you save a lot of time and frustration when it comes to finding specific stuff after the fact.

Clean your new home before you unpack/move in

It is a good idea to clean a new home before you move in as you really have no idea what the previous occupants have been up to. This is good for allergies as well as just having a fresh start. Much easier to clean an empty home than one full of boxes and furniture.

Use sandwich bags to hold nuts/bolts/screws etc and tape to the box for anything that needs to be assembled

Every time we take a piece of furniture apart we lose the screws to put it back together. Nobody wants to run to the hardware store for one screw during a move. So be sure to keep them in a clear bag and tape the bag to the box of a large piece of the furniture that needs to be assembled.

Changes the locks of your new place

You get the keys and think that is it. However, whoever lived in the home before you, their friends/family and emergency contacts all may still have keys. For your peace of mind and family’s safety, change the locks. It is quick and easy to do and very affordable. The Master Lock BCC0615 Door  Lock costs $46.49 and is great for entry doors.

The Master Lock No. BCCO0615 features a keyed alike biscuit style knob and single cylinder deadbolt, with interior thumb turn. The six-way adjustable latch fits all doors with 2-3/8in or 2-3/4in backset, square, rounded corners, or drive-in. The deadbolt is four way adjustable for 2-3/8in or 2-3/4in backset, square, or rounded corners. This knob and deadbolt combo pack is ANSI GRADE 3 and designed for exterior door applications. The satin nickel finish provides a sleek appearance. The Limited Lifetime Warranty provides peace of mind from a brand you can trust.

Take photos of how your electronics are wired/connected

It takes a while to get your speakers and all of your electronics pointed exactly right./ Set up to your specifications and working correctly. Hooking them up is half the battle. You can get a head start and eliminate all of the guessing by taking a picture of how they should be wired before disconnecting.

Change your address 2 weeks prior

To save time and going back to check for missed mail, change your address two weeks prior to your move. This will make all of your mail arrive at your home the day you move in. No worries about new occupants keeping your mail 🙂

Use clothes to wrap breakables instead of bubble wrap

My kids love bubble wrap and pop it and pop it every chance they get. So when we need it for packing, we do not have it. But if you use clothes and towels, you are saving money, space and being green.

Keep ID , important papers and anything of value in a safe place. Consider a home safe

Bank papers, mortgage info, Id and other important papers are easy to misplace during a move. Sentry Safe H0100 Small Privacy Lock Chest –keep your valuables protected before, during and after the big move. With a key lock this safe is fire proof and water resistant as well. This safe is available for $41 at Walmart and Amazon

Use clear bins for anything you will need to unpack first

Seeing what is inside a bin makes life a lot easier. The last packed items will be the ones you most likely need first.

Making your next move as stress free as possible is easier than you think. All you need is a little planning, some great friends and of course a place to go. Did you know 1 in 9 people move EACH YEAR? Moving can be a very stressful time but Master Lock is here to help with great product solutions and tips to help ease moving stress. I have both the above mentioned products and am very happy.
