No matter who you are, chances are you will move at least once in your life. Pack an overnight bag containing all the essentials.
After a long day of moving all you want is a shower and to crawl into bed. Last thing you need is to have to unpack a bunch of boxes to find your toothbrush and jammies.
Label boxes with room to unpack them in as well as contents.
The more rooms and people you have the more boxes you will have. Having them clearly labeled will help you save a lot of time and frustration when it comes to finding specific stuff after the fact.
Clean your new home before you unpack/move in
It is a good idea to clean a new home before you move in as you really have no idea what the previous occupants have been up to. This is good for allergies as well as just having a fresh start. Much easier to clean an empty home than one full of boxes and furniture.
Use sandwich bags to hold nuts/bolts/screws etc and tape to the box for anything that needs to be assembled
Every time we take a piece of furniture apart we lose the screws to put it back together. Nobody wants to run to the hardware store for one screw during a move. So be sure to keep them in a clear bag and tape the bag to the box of a large piece of the furniture that needs to be assembled.
Changes the locks of your new place

Take photos of how your electronics are wired/connected
It takes a while to get your speakers and all of your electronics pointed exactly right./ Set up to your specifications and working correctly. Hooking them up is half the battle. Change your address 2 weeks prior

Use clothes to wrap breakables instead of bubble wrap
My kids love bubble wrap and pop it and pop it every chance they get. So when we need it for packing, we do not have it. But if you use clothes and towels, you are saving money, space and being green.
