Quick, Tasty Steak And Chips Recipe

Of course, cooking a steak will never be quick, but this is about as quick as it gets! There’s nothing quite like a huge hunk of meat served with some chips and veggies, and that’s exactly what you’ll get here.

So, the ultimate goal is a deliciously cooked hunk of steak, served with some chunky chips and carrots. Let’s get started with the ingredients. All of this depends on serving size, so gauge how many people you have with the amounts you’ll need.

What you’ll need:

For the chips:

  • 4 medium potatoes, pre-cut and peeled into chip shapes
  • Olive oil (if frying).

For the carrots:

  • A medium packet of baby carrots
  • Olive oil
  • Black pepper and salt (if desired). Or any seasoning.

For the steak:

  • A cut of steak – we’re using a t-bone steak in this recipe
  • Again, salt and black pepper if desired, or any other seasoning.
  • Butter/margarine
  • Olive oil

The cooking method:

For starters, you’ll need to get that oven warming. Set it to around 180 degrees celsius, gas mark 4. If you have a fan oven, adjust accordingly. Moving onto the steak, you’ll want to season it with the salt and pepper we discussed – if you chose to have it. Any kind of seasoning will do – just choose your favorite!

You’re going to be frying the steak for a few minutes first, so heat up your pan with the olive oil and butter. Add your steak, and cook it for 6 minutes. If you have a particularly thick hunk, then go for slightly longer. Or if it’s thinner, slightly less. Once they’re cooked, leave them in a warm place until needed.

While you’re doing that, turn your attention to the chips. Put them in the oven for around 20 minutes, or until they’re golden brown. Alternatively, you can fry the chips in a deep fat fryer, in which case forget the oven in step one. Once they’re cooked, season them appropriately.

Finally, turn your attention to the carrots while the chips are cooking. I’d recommend frying these, to give them that juicy taste. Heat a frying pan until it’s boiling hot, and add the oil and carrots. Cook for as long as needed, and add seasoning to taste.

And now it’s the best time… serving time! Divide up your food between how many people you’re cooking for – don’t be greedy! Place your steak on the plate, and add a pinch of thyme or rosemary. Place the chips alongside, then add the carrots. If you wish to add any pepper steak or tartare sauce, now is the time to do so.

The end result

And now… enjoy! As is the case with any recipe, you don’t have to stick religiously to anything. You can swap out the carrots for pretty much any other vegetable, or can make wedges instead of chips. You can oven cook your veggies, or fry your chips, or vice versa. You can even opt for a different hunk of meat altogether. It all depends on your preferences.
