Explore the Most of New York City During a Weekend Stay

New York City is a place filled with lights, action and excitement.  There is so much to do and see that it is sometimes difficult to choose what should be done first.  With so many great deals to New York it is easier than ever to getaway, if only for a weekend. We have found a few things that everyone needs to do while they are in the city, so that they get the most out of their visit.

Times Square is one of the top places that everyone needs to see while they are in New York.  There are a ton of shops, restaurants and people, which is what makes it the perfect place to experience everything that New York City really is.  You can have your picture taken with the infamous naked cowboy or a cartoon character or the Statue of Liberty in between going into stores for clothes, souvenirs and chocolate.  If you’re an early riser, then you might even want to head over to one of the television studios for a live morning broadcast.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is the best place to see works of art that have been done over the last 5,000 years or so.  The museum has over two million pieces of art on display, so it is best if you choose what you want to see ahead of time.  If not, you might find that your weekend is over before you even leave the museum.

If you want spectacular views, then you will want to climb to the top of the Empire State building.  If you can’t make it all of the way up to the observation deck on the 102nd floor, you can still see views from the 86th floor deck.  For a different perspective, you can even walk over the Brooklyn Bridge above the East River.

There is nothing better than riding in the ferry over to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.  The Statue may look smaller when you are boarding the ferry, however as you are pulling up at the dock at the base of the Statue, you will be amazed at how large Lady Liberty really is.  Everything will seem surreal as you head up to the observation deck to look out.  If you plan far enough in advance, you might be able to purchase tickets online to climb all of the way to the crown.  They limit the number every day, so advance tickets are necessary.  Ellis Island always brings tears to people’s eyes as they wander through the museum looking at artifacts and photos and listening to the history of those who passed through those doors as they immigrated to the United States.

Of course, there are many other places to go including St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Rockefeller Center, Central Park and the World Trade Center Memorial and Museum.  The possibilities are endless and you will want to plan your trip before you reach the city.  This will allow you to maximize your time tremendously.  See the places that are most important to you and then take note of what you would like to do the next time you arrive in New York.
