How to Teach Your Kids to Live Green

There are many important things parents are expected to teach their children. Of these, teaching them to love and respect their earth is a very important one. Without people to care for our world, it will cease to exist. Teaching your children to live green is a great way to pass this important message on to future generations.

How to Teach Your Kids to Live Green

Here’s how to teach your kids to live green:

  • Set the example – Just like anything else you set out to teach your kids, it’s important to set a good example. The “do as I say, not as I do” example doesn’t really work that well. Children will always mimic what their parents do so show them how you want them to live.
  • Talk about the food we eat – Talk to your kids about the food you eat, where it comes from, and what food choices we have.
  • Respect nature – Get out into the great outdoors and teach your children to respect and appreciate nature. It will help them stay in touch with the earth and understand the importance of living green.
  • Let them get hands-on – Nothing teaches quite as well as just doing it. Allow your children to get hands-on when it comes to recycling, reusing, and other ways of reducing their carbon footprint. They will take these positive habits with them throughout life.

These are just a few ideas to get you started on teaching your children to live green. Don’t stop here, however. Continue learning and growing while teaching your children to respect the world they live in. It will be one of the best things you ever do for them.

How do you encourage your children to live greener? Was there something you found they loved that surprised you?
