Different Ways to Use WD-40 Around the House

Growing up as soon as something was rusty or started to make a noise, dad would bring out the WD-40 and fix the problem. It was one of those things we always had but I never really understood. Then as I grew up I started to realize how handy it was to have on hand. Have a can of WD-40 sitting around collecting dust? If so, maybe look over these different ways to use WD-40 around the house. These are fun and unique ways to get the most out of your can of WD!

WD-40 can be used for so many more things than squeaky hinges! Did you know that WD-40 has five basic functions, it can clean, displace moisture, penetrate, lubricate, and protect objects. This makes it a great multi-use product for your home!

WD-40 Hacks for Your Home

Stuck Dishes: Ever have two glasses or bowls stick together, well use a little WD-40 to fix that. Just spray around the base of the two items stuck. It will help loosen them and you can pull them apart.

Stuck Zipper: Put a tiny spray of WD-40 on your stuck zipper and it will help get it moving again.

Tangled Jewelry: Have jewelry that is tangled up, by spraying some WD-40 it will help loosen the knots and you should be able to untangle easier.

Air Conditioner Filter: When you go to change out your air conditioner filter, lightly spray with WD-40. This will help pick up more dust and give your home cleaner air. More dust and dirt will stick to the filter this way.

Prevent Rust: Spray on saw blades and other objects out in the garage to prevent them from rusting.

Remove Crayon from Wallpaper: Simply spray some WD-40 on the area on the wallpaper that has crayon, and wipe with a rag. It will get the crayon off!

Tea Stains: Have tea stains on your kitchen counter, spray a little on the area, and gently wipe it away.

Stains: If you have a lipstick, tomato based stain, ink pen, spray your clothes with WD-40, let it sit 15-30 minutes and then wash. It should lift the stain out. You can also use on carpet, I do suggest testing it, so you know it won’t ruin anything.

Oil Stains on Concrete: Have an oil spot on your driveway or shop that you want gone. Spray some WD-40 on the area, let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour, and wipe it off with a rag. If the stain is pretty stuck on, you might have to do this process a couple of times.

Scuffs and Tar on Floors: If you have some scuff marks or tar on your floors, this will help. Spray on some WD-40 and scrub it off. This will help loosen things up. I suggest letting it sit for 5 minutes before you start wiping away the marks.

Dig Faster: Spray your shovel with WD-40 and it will help you to dig faster. It will break through the ground easier.

Waterproof Shoes: Spray your shoes with WD-40 and it will act as a waterproofer, protecting your shoes.

Keep Wasps Away: WD-40 acts as a waterproof barrier. If you spray it on the area of roof where wasps tend to make nest, it will help keep them away. If there is a nest there, remove it and then spray.

Everyone should always have a can in their home to fix common household problems. Do you have anything you use WD-40 to fix?
