Kids Love Veggies with the Sweet flavour of Maille Honey Dijon with Giveaway

My oldest daughter has always been adventurous when it comes to eating. She is very much like me and will try anything at least once. I wish I could say the same for the other three kids. How my boys grew to be so big and tall, I will never know. Other than corn and potatoes they pretty much only ate cheese, meat and bread for many years. Now with my youngest showing similar picky habits, I am determined to change my family’s eating. The kids love sweet and the teens will now try new things, so I am trying to change things up and add more veggies to our meals.

I am using Maille Honey Dijon as a marinade and in dips to add flavours to our meals. Flavours the kids will not be able to resist. My goal is to get the family eating their 7 a day!

With its delicate balance of tangy Dijon and sweet blossom honey, Maille’s Honey Dijon Mustard can help make kids’ introduction to different foods easier, and allow the whole family to transition to a higher consumption of veggies and lean protein. Only 2 out of 5 Canadian children eat their “7 a day” according to Statistics Canada. Maille Honey Dijon Mustard adds a dash of sweet tanginess to dressings, marinades and dips – which are easy ways to help kids eat more veggies to reach their daily recommended intake. Maille Honey Dijon Mustard is available at grocery stores and supermarkets across Canada.

Maille’s Honey Dijon Mustard comes in two formats – in a classic glass jar and plastic squeezable bottle (convenient for outdoors or on the go, such as at summer picnics, BBQ’s and outdoor dining)

I have been using this mustard for years on my sandwiches but never thought to use it in dips and on veggies as a marinade. I quickly started experimenting with it on shrimp and chicken and loved the flavours it created. Wanting to add more veggies to our plates, I picked up some sweet potatoes and zucchini to grill up with it.

Maille Honey Dijon Mustard Marinade

1 tablespoon Maille Honey Dijon Mustard

1-2 tablespoons of Maille Balsamic Vinegar

3 Tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil

salt and pepper to taste

Whisk all ingredients until blended and brush over vegetables

Grilled sweet potatoes and zucchini

Peel two large sweet potatoes and cut into fries

Wash and cut zucchini into discs

Brush on marinade and place on cookie sheet

Place on grill or in oven for 30 minutes flipping ever 10 minutes

Oven temp 450 degrees

The marinade adds a sweet glaze to the vegetables

Honey mustard dip

1 cup of Greek yogurt

1 cup of cream cheese

1 teaspoon lemon juice

1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard

Mix well and refrigerate for 1 hour.

I was able to get the kids to all try these yummy veggies. My biggest surprise was that my 16 year old ate most of them and loved the dip. He loved it so much he started looking for things he could eat it with.

Since I have been trying to eat healthier, I have cut out a lot of dips and sauces in my meals. Dijon Mustard remains the only condiment allowed in most diets and is prized by nutritionists and fitness enthusiasts alike because of its flavor boosting properties. This makes me happy as we all love flavour!  With only 30 calories per tablespoon and a good amount of nutrients, such as omega-3 fatty acids, selenium, fiber, protein, magnesium, iron and calcium to only name a few, Dijon mustard can lead to a slimmer and healthier you.

As parents we want what is best for our children and will do whatever possible to achieve this. Diverse eating habits tend to lead to healthier children, and those who don’t eat their fruit and vegetables are more likely to be overweight or obese. Introduce your children to a wide variety of foods early to try to avoid them being picky eaters. Have fun in the kitchen, get them involved and get creative with cooking!

When creating your next recipe, consider using Maille Honey Dijon and see what your family thinks. Dijon Mustard enhances flavours tenfold by simply adding a spoonful while cooking. It is a secret weapon to amp up the flavor of meats and veggies by marinating or glazing, and you can even use Honey Dijon in desserts!
