Plan your Next Luxury Getaway in Barbados

One of my first getaways as an adult was to Barbados with a friend. I was so excited to visit a tropical destination for a girls getaway, I had no idea what I was in for. The two-week vacation was filled with sun and fun, but also included great food and amazing shopping. Over the years I keep thinking about heading back with my husband for a kid-free getaway. The island is a great spot for luxury romantic getaways, even if only for a few days.

White sands, turquoise waters, sunshine, and beautiful scenery fill the island of Barbados and many couples will find that this destination is perfect for a luxury getaway.  People spend much of their time working and raising their family, so they need a place where they can go to forget about their stress and be pampered the entire time.

Barbados

There are many luxurious resorts in Barbados that couples can choose from, but since they want to relax and not worry about anything, they may want  to consider one of Barbados villas on the beach.  They offer the ultimate in luxury accommodations as well as cuisine and entertainment.  Couples can stay inside a beachfront suite in one of the resorts, dine at an elegant restaurant, and dance the night away at one of the on-site night clubs.

A fabulous choice for accommodations is the luxurious Footprints.  The villa has multiple levels and each one has floor-to-ceiling windows as well as balconies or terraces.  Guests will enjoy their own fitness center and media room, which they can use whenever they wish.  A butler, housekeeper, and chef are available at a moment’s notice, so couples will not need to worry about cooking, cleaning, or anything else while they are staying at Footprints.

Barbados beach

There are numerous beaches in Barbados, but some are more spectacular than the others.  Bottom Bay Beach has pink sand and is surrounded by high cliffs, but it is not the best place to go for a swim due to the undertow.  However, couples will love eating a picnic lunch under one of the coconut palms that line the beach.  Mullins Beach has a beach bar and the drinks keep flowing all day long.  Couples can choose to sit and relax in the sand, snorkel, or ride a jet ski.

There are many things that couples can do while in Barbados, that do not include spending the entire day at the beach or the pool.  Couples may want to take a fabulous boat tour in the waters of the Caribbean and see marine life as well as the turtles that are native to the island.  Some of these boat tours include stops for snorkeling near shipwrecks and tropical coral reefs.

Everyone can see more of the island when they partake in an island taxi tour and couples can even have an itinerary created specifically for them and their interests.  Many tours will stop at Chalky Mount and Bottom Bay as well as Bath Beach, so guests can go for a swim and enjoy a picnic lunch during a break from the tour.

restaurant

Rum lovers will want to take a tour of one of the rum distilleries on the island and St. Nicholas Abbey is highly recommended, because it is the most charming.  They distill their rum in small batches, so it tastes a lot better than most other rum.  Guests can take a two-hour tour of the distillery as well as the 350-year-old plantation home and the gardens and orchards.  Rum samples are given throughout the tour and everyone will want to purchase a bottle or two before they leave.

Tours are given of Harrison’s Cave on a daily basis and couples will find themselves in awe as they explore the limestone cavern that is filled with stalactites, stalagmites, and streams.  The guides of the tours are very knowledgeable, so no one will miss even the smallest detail when they are in the cave.

Couples will want to dine at one of the elegant and romantic restaurants on the island at least once or twice during their getaway.  The Tides used to be a private mansion and guests are now seated in the dining area where they can hear the waves crashing on the shoreline a few feet away.  The Tides serves beef, lamb, seafood, and an entire vegetarian menu as well.  L’Azure at the Crane is located on a cliff that overlooks Crane Beach and the panoramic views of the beach, the water, and the sky are magnificent at night as the sun is setting.  Couples can listen to music while eating their meal by candlelight.

No one should leave Barbados without visiting the Barbados Boardwalk at sunset.  The boardwalk connects both Accra and Camelot Beaches and is a mile long.  There are many restaurants nearby, which makes it perfect for couples who want to dine early for dinner and then catch the amazing sunset.

Barbados is the perfect destination for a luxury getaway, because there is so much for couples to do, yet they will not have any of the stress that they might have in other places.  Couples can choose to stay in resorts where they are pampered and catered to, which is a wonderful change from their real life and will turn their vacation from good to extraordinary.

Not looking for a romantic getaway? No problem, there are lots for solo vacationers, families and even those looking for a girls weekend away to do. This destination has it all! Have you been to Barbados?
