Escape the City this Summer and Head to Sun Peaks Resort #SunPeaks360

When you think of British Columbia mountains, you most likely think of snow. Yes they are great for the winter sports and family getaways, but did you know there are lots to do in the summer as well? I recently headed off to Sun Peaks Resort just outside of Kamloops British Columbia with three of my kids. We were looking for a fun way to kick off summer and totally succeeded!

Sun Peaks is a resort community located in the interior of British Columbia. Located just 45 minutes from Kamloops, it is the second largest ski area in Canada and a year-round destination for guests in search of a welcoming, accessible, stress-free mountain experience. Consistently recognized as one of the top ski resorts in North America, thanks to its massive terrain and confidence inspiring design, Sun Peaks offers a European-style ski-in, ski-out, pedestrian village with locally-owned and operated shops, restaurants and lodging. Spring, summer and fall offers guests a wide range of leisure activities, featuring an 18-hole, par 72 Graham Cooke-designed golf course, a lift-accessed downhill mountain bike park, cross-country mountain biking, alpine hiking trails, and a year-round line up of concerts, events and festivals. Sun Peaks has been recognized for its environmental policies and practices, as the first resort in North America and the only resort in Canada to earn the ISO 14001 designation for environmental management. Sun Peaks can be accessed from airport gateways in Kamloops (45 minutes) and Kelowna (2.5 hours), and by car, with only a four-hour drive separating Sun Peaks from Vancouver, B.C.

Sun Peaks has everything you could need in a family getaway including great food, accommodation to fit all family sizes and lots of attractions and activities. No matter what your family’s ages are and interests, there is something for all at Sun Peaks Resort.

Our fun-filled getaway started off with checking into our room at the Sun Peaks Grand Hotel and Conference Centre. Our room had two large beds and a pull out couch. Great for those traveling with kids or multiple generations.

The Sun Peaks Grand Hotel & Conference Centre is a full service, luxury hotel where guests have exclusive use to a health club, featuring three outdoor hot tubs, an indoor entrance to a heated outdoor swimming pool, two massage rooms, sauna, and a well-equipped gym. Dine-in for breakfast, lunch, or dinner at Mantles Restaurant & Lounge serving Pacific Northwest cuisine with a regional flare, or take in the mountain views enjoying a drink on our scenic patio. Spend the night in luxury with fluffy down duvets and thick terry robes. The Sun Peaks Grand offers 12,000 square feet of meeting and convention space.

The hotel has a bar and restaurant downstairs as well as a health centre that includes a spa, pool and hot tubs. The pool is outdoors and open all year long.

We parked underground and kept the car parked for our entire visit. Everything in the village is a close walk to the hotel. The friendly staff were more than willing to point us in the direction of anything we wished to see or do while there.

I must admit, it was pretty hard dragging my eight year old away from the pool. When I was finally able to get her out of the pool, we ventured out to the village for some good eats and fun!

We enjoyed dinner at Powder Hounds where I think I had the best mojito of my life. Thanks to the mint being grown on the patio I enjoyed the freshest and tastiest mojito ever.

Powder Hounds’ dining atmosphere is one of a kind, and is the perfect setting for a special meal with your loved one or a group of friends. The menu can be described as International cuisine with a touch of German and Canadian. Powder Hounds has built a reputation for exceptional service and great food, due to experienced servers and chefs.

There was something for everyone on the menu and my kids had to issues picking out a meal. Two of them ordered steak, one a burger and myself, salmon.

Everything was so fresh and full of flavour. The picky children ate it all and could not wait until dessert.

Sitting outside on the patio of Powder Hounds chatting away, we did not want the night to end. The atmosphere was great, the food, amazing and the staff, super friendly. But we knew we had a busy visit ahead and had to call it a night.

A quick walk back to our room and we were ready for another swim shortly afterwards. Stay tuned to find out all of the fun things we did while there.

Have you been to Sun Peaks before? If you are in the British Columbia area I highly recommend you stopping by for a visit. You can find more information here www.sunpeaksresort.com
