Educational Places Families Can Visit During School Vacations

We love traveling with the kids! School vacations are popular times to travel, and while some people will choose to go to one of the famous amusement parks, others will decide that they want to venture somewhere that is both fun and educational.

Here are 5 educational places that families can visit during school vacations:

  1. Gettysburg

There is nothing more fascinating than learning about the Civil War in Gettysburg.  Families can drive through the park and stop at all the designated sections to see what happened there during the war.  There are numerous buildings that have been preserved over the years and multiple statues have been erected as well.

  1. Rancho de los Caballeros

Families can learn about the ins and outs of a dude-ranch when they visit the Rancho de los Caballeros in Arizona.  The entire family will learn how to ride a horse, both in the corral and out on the trails.  Hiking, scavenger hunts, and other activities will have everyone working together to learn more about nature and a cowboy’s life.

  1. Washington D.C.

Washington D.C. is a great place to go during school vacation, because there is quite a bit to do that won’t cost a dime.  The Smithsonian museums and the National Zoo have free admission and those places alone could take a week to see in their entirety.  Add in the monuments and Arlington Cemetery and the whole family will be smarter by the time school is back in session.

  1. Grand Canyon

Any of the national parks would be an adventurous and educational experience, but one of the best ones is the Grand Canyon.  This massive canyon measures more than two hundred and seventy-five miles in length and almost eighteen miles wide.  Add in the fact that it is also about a mile deep in most places and no family will be able to tear themselves away.

  1. Crow Canyon Archaeological Center

This archaeological center is located in Cortez, Colorado and the entire family will love digging in to see if they can find the next big artifact.  The Pueblo Indians lived in this area more than seven hundred years ago and this is the best way to learn about their life and traditions.

There is so much more than roller coasters and water parks that families can enjoy during their school vacations.  All these destinations above may offer educational lessons, but they also ensure that everyone will have a fabulous time as they enjoy every minute of their vacation.
