Learning more about Living with Incontinence

It appears that urinary incontinence is not widely discussed among friends and family. Sure we all joke a little about the possibility of laughing so hard that we could pee our pants, but how often is urinary incontinence truly discussed in-depth? I know I have tried to talk to other moms about it, often to be looked at like I have three heads. I think it’s time we all end the stigma surrounding Urinary incontinence! Learning about Prolapse and Urinary Retention as well as other conditions that may cause this, is important.

<img alt=”What is incontinence?”> Many people have experienced incontinence in their life time and it’s nothing to be embarrassed about. As a young woman I was told to do my kegels, but I had no idea what they were for.

In fact, Incontinence is more common than we think, affecting 1 in 3 women and 1 in 10 men within Australia. This is an alarming amount of people wouldn’t you say?

Having Urinary Incontinence doesn’t mean that you have to stop living your best life! There are measures that you can take to be able to live your best life with Urinary Incontinence.

Drink The Right Amount of Fluids
Limiting your fluid intake will have an adverse effect on your health and can lead to other serious health issues so it is important that you drink enough through out the day. Restricting yourself from drinking fluids will not help you to avoid leakage anyways, so it is best to make the right choice for your health.
Do Kegels
Pelvic floor exercises are an amazing way to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles. Strengthening your Pelvic Floor can help to prevent the feelings of urgency and the occurrence of leaks that can take place when you have an overactive bladder.

Think Ahead
It is important that you think ahead when you are going to go out. Make sure that there is a bathroom close by and you are prepared to stop on long road trips.
Protect Yourself

    I have her those exercises do a lot of good. After having my kiddos I do have a little bit of a problem with it especially when I sneeze or cough.

  7. I am currently expecting my third so I am quite familiar with peeing unexpectedly! Women totally need not be ashamed of such a common problem.

  28. i so appreciate the awareness you’re bringing to the issue of incontinence. there definitely are things everyone can do to prevent it. i feel like a lot of women struggle with this after having kids, and also in getting older.

  29. I suffered with this during my pregnancy and was very diligent about my kegals afterwards even seeing a pelvic floor specialist. It is a very real issue. good point here.

  35. Such great information. For years I didn’t seem to have any issues with bladder control. I was hoping I would be like my Mom who is now 70 and has never had that issue. Now if I sneeze sometimes it is like oh no oh no. I think this campaign is great to share this information so that those that struggle will not feel so alone.

  36. Kegels have always been my main way to try and keep things as they should be -especially after 4 kids. I still think its great that there are so many option now for those moments when we need a bit of back up protection!

  42. This is a great campaign to educate people about incontinence. Because it is such a delicate subject, not many people talk about it or know much about it.

  43. I think OBs should automatically teach every pregnant woman about this so that she can start preventative measures. The symptoms so often start after childbirth. Why not teach everyone? It’s so much more common than everyone assumes.

  45. Totally can relate! I started having leakage issues a few months after I gave birth to my son. I usually have liners and never go around with a full bladder lol I can’t hold it like I used to pre-baby.

    THANK YOU! This is an embarrassing topic but so many suffer from it. I’ve had 3 kids and my bladder is not up to par like it use to be. It’s harder and harder to control. Tena has been a life/pants saver for me for a while now. They just work well and don’t hurt my pocketbook in the process!

  55. As a matured person seeing or hearing that someone peed on his/her pants (like literally), I tend not to laugh about it because you’ll never know if that person is going through something in his/her body. Thanks for sharing this, great way to bring awareness to people.
