Champion Power Equipment – Don’t be left in the dark (Giveaway)

Winters in Canada are pretty extreme! We got our first taste of winter early this year, last week with 20 cms of snow in 24 hours and it is still here. Talk about coming in like a wrecking ball! With all first snow falls, many people were not prepared. So many cars were in the ditch and many of us around here were without power for almost 24 hours. Not having power for a long time is no fun, but in the cold winter, it is the worst!

No power means no lights, no space heaters, no furnace as the fan needs electricity, no flushing toilets if you have a pump for your well and no hot water. It also means no cooking unless you use your wood stove (if you have one) or your BBQ. It is no fun and very stressful not having the basics when the temperatures drop and your family is hungry. I have written a lot over the years about being prepared for emergencies and having a bag full of items you can grab and go if needed. Leaving your home is not always an option, so being prepared to stay and fight through the obstacles is important.

About ten years ago we lived on a rural street twenty minutes outside town. A horrible early winter storm flew through knocking out power to everyone int he area. Thousands were without electricity for days. we were without for two weeks. We learned the hard way that living rural , you are not a priority when it comes to getting service turned back on. The cities with hospitals, seniors homes and stores get their power worked on first. At this time, since so many were without, even the city took days to be back up and running. We were not in a position to leave our home as we had pets and pretty much everyone around us was in the same boat. Where would we even go? There were emergency shelters, but we had a generator and were able to stay home. So we left the shelters for those in need. We luckily had some gas and were able to run the generator to run a few lights, a space heater and our fridge. Many of our neighbours lost the food in their friends and freezers but ours was good. We even took in some of our neighbours food. We showered at a friends who had her power back on in a few days and the kids went to school every day. No sense staying home with no power when the school was up and running pretty quick. We were comfortable enough and survived a crazy couple of weeks. We learned a lot during that time.

Since then we have always made sure we had a generator on hand. We still live rural and make sure we are prepared for anything Mother Nature may throw at us. We also learned, that if there is no power, gas stations shut down as the pumps do not work. So always have extra fuel on hand as well as oil.

Having already experienced two power outages this month, I am so happy I was sent a Champion 3000W/4000 W generator. This light weight generator is perfect for keeping the lights on when the power is out. The wheels make it super easy to move around and connect quickly.

Champion Power Equipment is a market leader in power generation equipment, with years of experience providing dependable and durable power products designed and engineered in North America.  For work, recreation or home use, Champion makes the power that makes your life easier, including standby generators, water pumps, log splitters, open frame generators and lightweight and quiet inverter generators. Features available on Champion generators include:

  • Dual Fuel – Runs on GAS or PROPANE straight out of the box
  • Wireless Remote Start – Start and stop the unit from up to 80 ft. away.

Open Frame Generators

When you lose utility power it’s not only the lights that go out. Critical hardwired systems like heating and air conditioning units stop working, food begins to spoil, security systems often fail, and sump pumps cease functioning. A power outage lasting only a few days can cost the average family over $1,200 in repairs.  Designed with portability in mind, Champion products can be stored, moved and used with ease no matter where you need power. Housed in a durable steel frame some units come equipped with a u-shape folding handle and never-flat tires for easy maneuvering and transportation.

Open frame generators also make a great addition to the RV or a weekend at the cabin. Models are available travel-ready with standard 30A and 50A RV outlets with enough power to start and run everything in your RV.

Using a generator is safe and easy. Just make sure you have fuel and some extension cords on hand to bring the power inside. we plugged in some lights, ran the TV and a space heater while waiting for the hydro to come back on. We were quite comfortable and safe in our home.

Power outages can occur for a host of reasons, including storms in any season of the year, brown outs due to excessive demand on the electrical system, power line breaks from construction activities and many more unforeseen events.  When these events happen, homeowners are left in the dark and often their home and property are at risk.  With convenient power generators, there are no more worries about loss of food products in fridges and freezers, basements flooding because sump pumps aren’t working, and the general inconvenience that comes with a power outage.

Snow, wind and vehicle accidents have caused power outages here off an on over the last few months. Having a generator on hand make sit a less stressful experience. I highly recommend everyone get one for emergencies, there is one to fit all needs and budgets. Champion products are available at a number of retailers across Canada, including Canadian Tire and Costco, with prices ranging from $299 to $1,100, depending on the product.

With the extreme weather we have all been getting. make sure you are prepared for the winter. Visit www.championpowerequipment.com to find the right generator for you.
