Take a Hike and be Worry Free with Poise #PoiseMoment

As a family, we try to spend as much time as possible outdoors. If we have good weather, that is usually where you will find us. Our province and country has endless opportunities for us to enjoy the great outdoors. Parks, lakes, trails and even side streets make for amazing walks any time of day. Since discovering Poise liners, I have been happily spending more times outside my comfort zone and walking farther and longer than I have ever before. Not needing to have a bathroom within eyesight and not worry about the onset of leaks that often comes with physical exercise is new to me and really allowing me to step outside my comfort zone.

This summer when the heat was not too bad, we went hiking through the mountains. My kids are full of energy and very active and spenda lot of time exploring our surroundings.  I had one major goal when I turned 40: to be able to keep up with them! This past summer I think I reached that goal. We took a chair lift up the mountain and hiked for over 5 kms one sunny day. I think it was closer to 8 but I am not certain. It was a great time and my kids loved that I kept going. Since there were no bathrooms on the mountain, I could not make my “just-in-case” visits.

Being able to spend time with my children and enjoy the beautiful scenery is something I will always remember. We saw flowers in bloom, deer in the distance and were greeted by other hikers. Below is a picture of us hiking in the summer far away from any restrooms.

Canada has some amazing landscapes and no matter what time of year it is, it is great to be outside. walking is one of my favourite ways to get active and get exercise. It is great for my heart and lets me be active at my own pace. Plus, when I can get out with the family, we share an experience that we all remember for a life time.

Of course, when hiking I need to stay hydrated and carry a water bottle with me. Liquids, exercise and no bathroom around used to be a nightmare scenario for me. But not anymore! Since discovering Poise panty liners I have them with me when I want to be worry-free. The discreet liners fit nicely in my purse or pocket. When on, they are comfortable, not bulky and  3-in-1 protection for dryness, comfort, and odor control, unlike period pads. All of this allows me to hike through our country’s beautiful backside and enjoy the scenery and time with my family without worrying about leaks!

Are you amongst the one in four Canadian women who experience light bladder leakage?   Almost half (49%) of women suffer from stress urinary incontinence (SUI) which can be triggered by everyday occurrences like coughing, sneezing, laughing, lifting or even exercise – many times occurring after pregnancy.

Since becoming a Poise Brand Ambassador, I have learned a lot about light bladder leakage. Here are some of the few eye-opening facts:

  • More than half of women with SUI do not seek help from a healthcare professional, according to The Canadian Continence Foundation
  • Despite the high prevalence of SUI, many women are reluctant to discuss their condition with their partners, friends or even with healthcare professionals
  • Shame and embarrassment are the key deterrents of seeking help
  • While there are products specifically designed to help protect women against light bladder leaks (LBL), many still turn to period pads to help absorb their leaks. But period pads are made for periods and are not designed for leakage symptoms.

Poise has a great selection of products to cover everyone’s needs and preferences. Discovering Poise has opened up my life and allowed me to do the things I have always wanted to do. I no longer have to say no to my kids when they want to take a hike.
