9 Part-Time Jobs for Stay-at-Home Parents

Do you get a lump in your throat when you drop your child off at daycare in the morning? Many parents have anxiety about leaving their children while they go to work. Fortunately, we live in an age in which innovative technology has made it easy to work from home. Here are nine possible part-time jobs for stay-at-home parents.

Blogger

If you have a gift for the written word, consider blogging for a living. Many companies need help with their blogs and other web content. All you need is a home computer to get started. Third-party content providers provide digital marketing services to organizations around the world and are constantly on the lookout for good writers. Just learn the typical blog format, write a few samples, and then apply online.

Online ESL Teacher

If English is your first language, consider teaching it to others by providing students English lessons via Skype or another calling platform. You’ll need to be a native English speaker and typically have a bachelor’s degree. You may also need certification — but once you have it, the opportunities are endless. You can work for a service or do it on your own.

Sell Your Creations

Turn your art, hobby, or passion into pure profit by starting your own little business. Whether it’s beaded jewelry, homemade jam, landscape paintings, or custom furniture, there are many opportunities to get your creations sold. Sign up for craft fairs and flea markets, or build yourself a website and sell them online.

Home Daycare Services

Your parenting skills are likely top notch since you have kids of your own. Why not apply those skills to running a home daycare or just babysitting one or two of your neighbor’s kids on a regular basis? It’s a win-win for everyone and an important and viable part-time job.

Secret Shopper

Do you enjoy shopping? A secret shopper, also called a mystery shopper, gets paid to visit a store, evaluate their shopping experience, and then share their opinion. You can probably even take your kids along if the client allows it.

Data Entry

If you are a fast typer, a work-from-home data entry job may be perfect for you. Your duties as a data entry clerk may include entering resumes into a database, sorting incoming email, entering client information into a customer database, or posting job openings.

Amway

Amway is one of the oldest and most successful multi-level marketing companies in the world. It was founded in 1949 and has a strong record of success. Today, Amway provides all kinds of household goods to families around the world. From food and nutrition to personal care items and cookware, Amway has something for everyone.

Pet Sitting

Pet watching companies like Rover.com match dog owners who need pet sitting services with animal lovers who are available to help. All you have to do is sign up, create your pet sitting profile, and then set your prices. The only downside is that you need to live in a city big enough to find business, but the potential to earn hundreds of dollars per month is a reality.

Tutoring

If you have a teaching background, you can easily earn $25 to $40 an hour simply by helping kids with their homework. It’s a great way to make a difference in the life of a child while earning some extra income. You might even be able to bundle several children together for group sessions on the same subject.

Remember that any of these great part-time jobs should be treated as businesses. That means you may need a business license, business checking account, or insurance, and you will have to pay taxes on your earnings. However, the trade-off is that you get to stay home and be present for your kids and enjoy their childhood along with them. What a wonderful gift!
